Deployed to Baghdad w/ the surge 2007-2008. 2/23 4/2 ID. The 23rd infantry battalion were deployed in support of operation Iraqi freedom as a means to slow down and stop the violence and terrorism in the heart of Baghdad and surrounding areas. They conducted hundreds of combat missions community presents missions and raids on high-value targets with the support of Green Berets (ODA) and members of the British special air service. (SAS)
Over the course of a 15 month deployment they were able to kill or capture over 500 Al-Qaeda terrorist along with members of other forces attached to the overthrowing of the new Iraqi government.

Upon returning from Iraq Jonathan was recruited by the commander of FT Lewis to join the All Army combative team, which lead to their teams 2nd place finish at the 2008 All Army Tournament. Jonathan was also a combative instructor that taught 1000’s of Army Soldiers hand to hand combat before deploying to war zones.
