Cat's are so special! Next time you see a cat stuck in a tree, just know that it's quite the challenge for them to climb back down face first. This is why most of the times you'll see videos of cats jumping instead of climbing down.
Almost everyone who has a dog knows that they tend to mimic the personalities of the family they live with. Turns out, dogs are conditioned to behave in certain ways that humans do. These little habits dogs have can look a lot like yours.
These habits cute and adorable, but always remember it's your responsibility to not condition them into anything that isn't good for their wellbeing.
Dogs have fewer taste buds than we do—about 1,700 in the average dog compared to 9,000 in us. Taste buds in different parts of the tongue respond to different microscopic molecules. Like us, dogs can identify sweet, sour, salty, and bitter. Unlike us, they also have special taste buds aimed at tasting only water.
Did you know? Dalmatian puppies don't have any spots when they're born. Instead, they are born all white and get spots as they get older. Their spots start to develop around 2 to 3 weeks old.

Cats stop using their litter boxes for a variety of reasons, including issues with the box or litter, dissatisfaction with the placement or number of boxes, changes in the environment inside or outside the house, and undiagnosed medical conditions.
Hopefully these tips can help you identify the problem, and get your cat back on the sand!
The unlucky tag that accompanies black cats actually stems from a Middle Ages myth when black cats were believed to be associated with witches. Yet many cultures actually worship the black cat – they were worshiped in ancient Egypt where owning black cats was thought to bring good luck. Black cats are also considered lucky in Australia, Asia and the UK where there have been no reported sightings of witches.
Your domestic cat is cleaner than you think! How often do you see your cat cleaning themselves?
For the vast majority of dogs, the benefits of appropriate vaccination far outweigh the risks. However, as is often true in medicine, dog vaccine side effects are possible.
Vaccine reactions in dogs can be stressful and scary for you as a pet parent, but they will be less so if you know what to watch for and how to react.
Next time your pet gets a vaccine, keep an eye out for these potential after effects.
Puppies are born deaf, and this is the last of their senses to fully develop. They can't hear until they're about three weeks old. Once their hearing kicks in, they hear about four times better than most people, including hearing a wider range of frequencies.
Dogs are not colorblind in the sense that they see more than just black, white, and gray. However, the color range they perceive is limited compared to the spectrum we see.
To put it in very basic terms, the canine color field consists mostly of yellows, blues, and violets. “Human” reds, greens, and oranges are not distinguishable to dogs and instead appear somewhere on their yellow to blue spectrum.
The reason? The retina of both species contains two types of photoreceptors, rods and cones. The human eye, however, contains more types of cones while the canine eye has more rods and no fovea, which is responsible for sharp visual detail in humans. The result is that dogs have superior night vision and are better at tracking movement than we are, but see fewer colors and shapes and objects appear in much less detail.
The bottom line is that tossing an orange ball onto green grass may look like yellow against yellow to your dog, but his acute motion-detection ability will help him fetch it anyway.
I love hearing cat's meow! A meow or miaow is a cat vocalization. Meows may have diverse tones and are sometimes chattered, murmured or whispered. Adult cats rarely meow to each other, so an adult cat meowing to human beings is probably a post-domestication extension of meowing by kittens; a call for attention.
We always love to celebrate pet adoption! Adopting a shelter cat is a rewarding experience. Not only does it bring the enjoyment of caring for a new companion, but it also gives you the joy of knowing you've rescued a cat, your adoption opens a space for that shelter to rescue another cat in need
We love our pets so much that it's only fitting we find a vet that feels the same way about our pet. That can feel like a daunting task, but it's very possible. Hopefully these tips help you along the way!
Americans love dogs! How many dog's do you own?
This is no surprise! Petting a dog for just 15 minutes can lower blood pressure by 10%, research has revealed. Spending time with your four-legged friend releases serotonin, oxytocin, prolactin and even lowers the stress hormone cortisol, according to findings compiled by bingo site Tombola.
Dental health is a very important part of your pet’s overall health, and dental problems can cause, or be caused by, other health problems. Your pet’s teeth and gums should be checked at least once a year by your veterinarian to check for early signs of a problem and to keep your pet’s mouth healthy.
Veterinary dentistry includes the cleaning, adjustment, filing, extraction, or repair of your pets' teeth and all other aspects of oral health care. These procedures should be performed by a veterinarian or a board-certified veterinary dentist. Subject to state or provincial regulation, veterinary technicians are allowed to perform certain dental procedures under the supervision of a veterinarian.
The process begins with an oral exam of your pet’s mouth by a veterinarian. Radiographs (x-rays) may be needed to evaluate the health of the jaw and the tooth roots below the gumline. Because most dental disease occurs below the gumline, where you can’t see it, a thorough dental cleaning and evaluation are performed under anesthesia. Dental cleaning includes scaling (to remove dental plaque and tartar) and polishing, similar to the process used on your own teeth during your regular dental cleanings.
Is your cat covering their p**p? If not, one reason may be that they don't fear you....Which when you think of it, it's not that bad. However, if they show physical signs of aggression, then it's time for a little trip to the Vet!
Take a close look at your cat’s nose. You will notice little bumps and ridges. (Dogs have this same unique trait and since their noses are bigger than cats’ it is easier to see on a dog.) The prints are exclusive to each animal and can be used for identification, just like your fingerprints can
The method used at present for identifying our pets is through a microchip implant which can (and has) dislodged or malfunctioned, thus becoming useless.
But nose prints, like our fingerprints, will always be there. Maybe someday microchips will be replaced with nose scanners. Cats (and dogs) could be scanned when we adopt them and keep those scans on file for comparison if our pets should ever become lost or stolen.
Core vaccines are considered vital to all pets based on risk of exposure, severity of disease or transmissibility to humans. For Dogs: Vaccines for canine parvovirus, distemper, canine hepatitis and rabies are considered core vaccines. Non-core vaccines are given depending on the dog's exposure risk.
The Australian Shepherd probably came from the Basque region of Spain. Basque shepherds first took their dogs with them to Australia and then to the United States, so Americans called the dogs Australian Shepherds.
Your dog gets into this position so no one comes for their organs. It sounds silly for your beloved pooch, but it's a reasonable tactic for their wild ancestors.
Another reason is that your dog is making his or her own nest when they curl up in an attempt to stay safe in a possibly foreign area. Even if your dog is at home, they still often revert back to basic instincts when getting ready for sleep, as it's a vulnerable state.
If you're the proud pet parent of a new cat, the question of how to litter train a kitten is probably foremost on your mind. It might relieve you to know that litter box training is typically a fairly simple affair. Many kittens arrive in their new homes having already learned how to use a litter box from their mothers, and even those who haven't are helped along by a strong instinct to bury the evidence after doing the deed. However, if your new kitty needs some pointers, this post should help!
Honest Abe had a tenderness for cats! Abraham Lincoln, our sixteenth President, loved cats and could play with them for hours. When asked if her husband had a hobby, Mary Todd Lincoln replied, “cats.” President Lincoln visited General Grant at City Point, Virginia in March of 1865. The civil war was drawing to a close and the enormous task of reuniting the country lay ahead, yet the President made time to care for three orphaned kittens. Abraham Lincoln noticed three stray kittens in the telegraph hut. Picking them up and placing them in his lap, he asked about their mother. When the President learned that the kittens’ mother was dead, he made sure the kittens would be fed and a good home found for them.
Did you know this?! Cats have a whopping 32 muscles in each of their outer ears (compared to the 6 you have in your own). Those muscles give them the control to swivel and rotate their ears so they can hone in on the exact source of a noise. The muscles also allow her to rotate her ears an impressive 180 degrees!
