New music incoming! I was commissioned by the Chromatica Chorale in the SF Bay Area to write a new suite of choral works in collaboration with the preeminent choral lyricist of our time Charles Anthony Silvestri. It’s called ‘Transfigurations’. I’m excited to share it with you all in due time, but for now if you’re in the Bay Area, save the date for the world premiere!
I’ll be at the iconic Guggenheim Museum in New York with Francesca Zambello and Susan Soon He Stanton talking about our completion of ’s as part of their Works and Process series. Come check it out, and get a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse of the creative process behind finishing one of the great unfinished works of the operatic cannon! Sunday Feb 25th! Tickets available at the link in my bio.
Still can’t believe I got to do this! 😍
Just handed in the final score for my completion of for Washington National Opera. It’s been a thrill working with Susan Soon He Stanton and Francesca Zambello on finishing ’s final opera on the 100-year anniversary of his death. Coming to The Kennedy Center on May 11th, with a stellar cast conducted by Speranza Scappucci Official and featuring Ewa Płonka in the title role.
The last six months have been some of the most creatively fulfilling of my entire life. This is my first opera commission, and what an absolute dream project it’s been. I’m hooked.
Took a break from my composing retreat to guest DJ on Classical California! Join me tonight at 7 PM PT as I present some of my favorite music with the help of Brian Lauritzen (pictured) and Jeff Freymann (producing via Zoom). Link in bio!
Classical KUSC and Classical KDFC have been huge supporters of my music, so I’m super grateful that my California radio family gave me a chance to do this. ❤️
Thanks to everyone who gave my music a listen, especially those who discovered me for the first time this year. Love you all! Lots more new music coming next year a stay tuned.
Thanks to the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles and Angel City Chorale for inviting me to guest conduct! Was a wonderful concert with some fine young musicians. Thanks to James Muhammad, President of Classical KUSC for serving as the master of ceremonies. Was wonderful sharing the podium with Dwayne Burrell and Sue Fink.
Very excited to be guest conducting my piece 'Njooni Waamanifu' (a Swahili setting of 'O Come All Ye Faithful') with the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles and Angel City Chorale on Nov. 19th as part of the California Festival: A Celebration of New Music. It's their season opener and it's FREE! If you're in SoCal come on by and say hi!

Baba Yetu: The 360° Experience | Stay at Home Choir & Christopher Tin
Thank you Spotify for including ‘Hope Is the Thing with Feathers’ (performed by Voces8) on the Classical New Releases playlist. Check out our new EP ‘The Lost Birds: Choral Edition’!
Out today: The Lost Birds: Choral Edition! This EP features five movements from 'The Lost Birds' exquisitely performed by Voces8 without accompaniment. Many of these pieces were originally conceived as a ca****la pieces, so this this release is the equivalent to a director's cut, in a way. Let me know what you think! https://christophertin.lnk.to/LostBirdsChoralEdition
Tomorrow something new and exciting is coming. Prepare to be transported!
Calling All Dawns now has a concert-band-plus-choir arrangement, thanks to arranger Martin Ducharme! Check out the demo video that he recorded with live singers and musicians... a ton of work has been put into this, and I'm just honored. Check it out via the link in the comments. It's been performed a few times in this configuration already. More info, including how to rent/purchase this, are on my website.
Lunch with librettist Susan Soon He Stanton before workshopping our new ending to with Washington National Opera!
Susan is an Emmy-winning playwright/screenwriter/librettist, who most recently finished a stint as a writer/producer on HBO’s . I’m honored to work with her.
Road Warrior Chris™ is back! After a three month social media hiatus to focus on composing, I'm venturing out again... this time flying to Washington DC for the first workshop of my new ending to 's with the Cafritz Young Artists Program of Washington National Opera! I'm incredibly thankful that after so many years of music making, I'm still getting challenged by new projects and new collaborations. My first opera commission has been a blast so far, and I'm looking forward to working with director Francesca Zambello and my awesome librettist playwright Susan Soon He Stanton in person tomorrow.
By the way, Road Warrior Chris™ has transformed into his newly upgraded v2.0 form! Whereas v1.0 could be found fearlessly romping around the streets of Chennai, Istanbul, or Johannesburg, his newest form has a tad more wear and tear, and needs a little extra encouragement to strap on that backpack. That's why he's now equipped with a First Day of Kindergarten Power Bracelet. The bracelet contains super magical powers that connect his heart to that of his brave 5-year-old daughter, who wears a matching bracelet as she starts *her* new adventure in kindergarten. Together, they transmit strength, courage, and love to one another as they tackle the adventures that each new day brings.
and (in that order) ❤️
These are finally out, and I'm super excited! Vocal scores for my newest nominated work 'The Lost Birds', courtesy of my amazing publishers Boosey & Hawkes and distributed by Hal Leonard Choral. Perform it with your choir! The vocal score contains a piano reduction, but there are also three different instrumental accompaniments, ranging from piano quartet to small orchestra (all available from Boosey). Visuals for concert performances are in the works too.
Huge thanks to everyone involved in this, particularly to Voces8 and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for bringing my music to life.

Thank you Boosey & Hawkes! Immensely honored to be on your legendary roster.
California-born composer Christopher Tin is widely known for his worldly choral anthems, including his oratorio “To Shiver the Sky,” 🚀which tackles the history of flight, setting words by astronomers, pilots, and others in multiple languages. 📽️Watch soprano Danielle de Niese and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra perform “Courage,” set to poetry by Amelia Earhart: https://youtu.be/X5n8yOcwfN4

I've been very quiet lately (super focused on my version of the Turandot ending), but I did manage to squeeze in an interview with ABC Classic's Meena Shamaly about my work in games, including some rare, never-released tracks. Give it a listen in the link in comments!
Danielle de Niese doing wonderful and beautiful things out there in the world. ❤️
16-year-old Ukrainian violinist’s poignant ‘Love Changes Everything’ with star soprano Danielle De Niese A beautiful solo from a young Ukrainian violinist, and two of the UK’s star singers, in a special moment of music to mark Refugee Week.

Sunday will be my final broadcast as a guest presenter on the Scala Radio Residency, and I’ll be joined by a special guest… the one and only Lara Downes, whose newest album ‘Love at Last’ is out now!
What a glorious past six months it’s been! Scala let me play everything from Mahler to Aretha Franklin. I’ll miss working with their production team (particularly Lissie, who managed to make me sound semi-coherent again and again!) I’m grateful for the opportunity to have finally checked ‘radio DJ’ off my bucket list. Tune in to my final show this Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 PM UK time. Link in comments!
Save the date! I'll be making my conducting debut at Lincoln Center next year. Distinguished Concerts International New York - DCINY are currently inviting choirs interested in traveling to New York to sing my biggest hits with full orchestra, in one of the most famous concert halls in the world--and have invited me to conduct the concert! If you're interested in learning more about the process, you can get more information via the link in my bio. (Note that this invitation is just for choirs at the moment--individual singers will be welcomed further down the line.)
Huge thanks to the listeners of Classic FM for voting me into the Hall of Fame for the first time! ‘The Drop That Contained the Sea’, ‘The Lost Birds’ and my Sid Meier’s Civilization themes all made appearances. Very grateful to everyone who voted!
Thanks once again to Scala Radio for letting me host the Scala Radio Residency! Today's show was all about being amongst nature, which in my case, means building sand castles on the beaches of with my daughter Penny. Listen back online at Scala Radio! Link in bio.
I'm a little tearful that my residency on Scala will be coming to an end soon! My final show is on April 30th. It's been a real pleasure, and I'm grateful to Scala for letting me join the party for the last six months
