Porcelain veneers are thin layers of porcelain that recreates the teeth natural look and also provides strength and resilience. As we can see in these pictures, porcelain veneers are a good choice for restoring fractured teeth, requiring minimal preparation. This patient was also concerned about the shade of her teeth, so we performed an in-office bleaching, prior to the veneers preparation. After a total of 3 visits, we were able to achieve this bright and natural result, which immediately made our young patient a lot more confident about her smile.

Hello Everyone! This is Kaitlyn Tarbert, your dental hygienist at Dr. Sharon Ben-Roohi’s office. This is an important reminder that oral bacteria have long been associated with systemic diseases. It only takes 3 short months for the bacterial build-up on the teeth to become virulent and cause harm not only to the teeth and gum, but also to the body. It is important to follow-up with your routinely schedule hygiene visits to help maintain good oral health and to reduce the risk of systemic complications. See you all soon!

New Botox Treatment for TMJ on 'The Doctors' 11/02/2016

Appliance therapy and physical therapy or a combination of, can help relieve TMJ disorder symptoms in patients with mild or moderate TMD. Sometimes the outcome is not as fast or profound in patients you have a more chronic and debilitating TMD symptoms. I myself suffer from TMD and have success in treating the condition and managing my pain. However, I have been open to new ideas and treatment options, especially for patients with more severe form of the disorder. New research related to TMD pain management has pointed to the use of Botox as an immediate relief for the pain associated with TMD. Clenching and grinding, stress, mal-occlusion (off bite), lifestyle habits, posture and more, lead to symptoms associated with TMJ disorder. Stress in particular leads to tension and spasms due to constant contracting of the muscles. Botox works by suppressing inflammatory molecules released from over worked muscles while also inactivating involuntary contracting muscles. Relief is swift and usually lasts up to three months. Medical insurance may also assist in the cost for treatment. If you are interested in discussing your symptoms and how Botox may help, schedule a consultation today.

When dental decay causes too much damage, the tooth may no longer be able to support a conventional filling. Often, however, a tooth may not be damaged enough to require a crown. This is where partial crowns or onlays and inlays may come in. Cutting into a damaged tooth unnecessarily for a dental crown will remove more tooth structure than is needed. On the other hand, placing a large dental filling can weaken the tooth because there is not enough remaining healthy structure to support the filling.

Inlays and onlays are all ceramic dental restorations that requires a less invasive preparation of the tooth, avoiding unnecessary tooth destruction when a filling is not enough and a crown is too much. These "partial crowns" restore large cavities allowing for a more conservative treatment option. A conventional crown will cap the tooth all the way around. Inlays and onlays, will fit inside a tooth like a three dimensional puzzle piece. By design they will conserve the remaining healthy tooth structure from having to unnecessarily be cut down in order to fit a conventional crown.

Dental implants are the most hygienic and ideal solution to replacing missing teeth. Dental implants are reliable, strong, long lasting restorations that actually preserves and stimulates natural bone growth, preventing bone loss.

Each implant provides the look and functionality of the natural tooth and root. At our office, we offer full in house implant dentistry services, designed to restore your teeth and maintain the structural integrity of your mouth-without referrals.

Whether you’re missing tooth is the result of periodontitis, tooth decay or an injury, our highly experienced team can help restore your smile with a beautiful new dental implant that looks and functions just like a real tooth. Significantly stronger than bridges or dentures, dental implants offers a single and permanent solution to lost teeth.

Although you have a number of restorative options for the treatment of missing teeth, none have proven to be as functionally effective and durable as implants. In many cases, dental implants may be the only logical choice for the restoration of all necessary functionality of the teeth and supporting structures.

Metal mercury fillings, or amalgams, contain a mixture of mercury, silver and other metals such as copper and tin. Amalgam is filling material still commonly used by many dentists, however more and more dental practices like ours, do not use or carry amalgam it in their office. In our practice, we have found that about 80% of the amalgam fillings removed have decay underneath, coupled with internal or external fractures in the tooth. When amalgam removal is recommended, we replace them with BPA free biocompatible composite resin, porcelain or gold.
To prevent mercury and other metals from being ingested, we use the leading edge Isolite system to ensure minimal metal powder exposure while the amalgam is removed. The Isolite System employs a flexible shield that comfortably fits in your mouth so you can relax your jaw as we work. It protects the throat, illuminates the mouth, and creates double suction to keep the amalgam localized. A new, specialized drill bit is used to rapidly release the amalgam while a third high-speed suction source, pulls the amalgam out as it is released from the tooth. Throughout the process, copious water is used to rinse and remove amalgam. We do our best to assure patients are comfortable during the process and complete the filling removal as quickly as possible.
