We had a fantastic Prenatal Massage class this past weekend!
Did you know that IPSB is owned by a Birthworker? Sabrina has been a birth doula for nearly 30 years and teaches all of our prenatal classes.
Massage therapy is an excellent supplementary career path for birthworkers. Not only does massage therapy help you better support your clients during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, it also provides an excellent way to support yourself financially and let you create your own schedule around client births.
If you’re a birthworker wanting to add massage therapy to your work, email Anne at [email protected] for more info!
Another fantastic weekend of Communications: Resonance and Relations! A fan favorite here at IPSB, this transformative course emphasizes integrating verbal work with bodywork and exploring the energetic meaning of physical postures, movements, and responses. This course teaches practitioners to pace their clients, follow their journey where it needs to go, and integrate body-based healing with life healing. This is a profound addition to any bodywork practice, so we welcome licensed practitioners who need Continuing Education credits too!
Pictured above, students create plaster masks to help tell their own stories with the class.

🚨 New blog post 🚨
Meet Tony Poland, IPSB instructor specializing in sports and rehabilitation bodywork, focusing on myofascial trigger points. From scoliosis to the Olympics, his journey is as inspiring as his dedication to healing.
We couldn’t be more proud to call Tony one of our own! Our students have such an edge getting to learn from him 👨🏫
Cyndi and I met at IPSB School of Bodywork in early 2005 while I was finishing my 500-hour program and assisting classes. Despite multiple attempts, I couldn’t manage to speak with her until we took a Deep Tissue course together. I was struck by her humor, passion, and kindness. To my surprise, she asked me to assist her with an IPSB Foundations class, and we quickly formed a deep connection over lunch one day. By the end of the class, we were looking at our future together.
In 2008, after almost three years together, we were both IPSB employees and engaged, planning an October commitment ceremony. When Proposition 8 was overturned, legalizing same-sex marriage in California, our ceremony turned into a wedding right in an IPSB classroom.
In September 2023, after 16 years of marriage, we purchased the school that brought us together. Founded by a q***r individual in 1979, IPSB has been a safe space for LA’s LGBTQ+ community long before gay marriage was federally recognized. We work with the LA LGBT Center and are expanding our curriculum to be more inclusive in 2024 and 2025.
Loving and uplifting our LGBTQ+ community requires embracing intersectionality, anti-racism, and continuous learning. As an educational wellness institution, it’s vital to train the next generation to provide safe and affirming care. IPSB brought me the love of my life, as it has for many q***r couples. We’re proud to foster an environment of acceptance and celebration, committed to an equitable future.
