Where is your hometown? Where did you go to school? What teams do you rep?
-My hometown is Middletown, CT. I attended Connecticut College, and support UConn basketball & New England Patriots
What sports did you play growing up? Do you currently still compete?
-I was div 3 athlete in Cross Country, Track and Swimming. I currently train 5x/week at UCLA’s MAC in both single and double scull to compete in regional regattas and heads.
Why do you coach group fitness?
-After almost 25 years of coaching, I still love encouraging and witnessing the physical/emotional/spiritual advancement of others through healthy living and fitness, especially as our bodies grow older.
What do you do for fun? Do you have any hobbies?
-Fun is watching my son compete in Fencing tournaments, spending time with my family, going to concerts, museums, opera, hikes in the Angeles Ntl Forest, attending my 8th Burning Man! My favorite hobby is making travel plans.
What’s your favorite snack?
-I love dark chocolate caramels with sea salt!

Hi I’m Joel. I row because Adam and Amanda invited me to!
I was boxing, hiking, and running. I still do boxing and hiking, but I do rowing now for cardio and save my knees.
I rowed briefly in high school and college, mostly on my own. It’s good to be back on an erg.
I have really enjoyed the classes and the music, and I convinced my wife to join as well. She is six months pregnant and she is faster than me most of the time!
My goal is to stay healthy! I like my routine and I’m hoping to avoid injury.

The 2000 meter race is the most famous test in rowing. Crew teams around the country and the Olympic team have 2K requirements that their athletes need to hit and maintain in order to reserve a seat in the boat.
It’s a mid distance race and it is a test of true rowing skill.

🚨 15-Day Check-In | How many classes have you conquered? 💪🚣♀️
Hi👋 Amanda here. Did you all know that I’m the one that runs the Row House Santa Monica social media?! I’m also one of the owners and the lead coach ☺️. I thought it was time to share a little bit about myself with you all.
I grew up as a competitive swimmer. While in college at the University of Michigan, I swam for the synchronized swim team and was a coxswain for the women’s rowing team. Becoming a Row House coach has been such an awesome journey. I love coaching and having the opportunity to help people in such a profound way.
In my personal life, I’ve been married to my husband, Adam, for almost 12 years and we have 2 incredible young boys. One of my favorite parent moments so far has been bringing my boys to their first Row House classes. I got responses of “today was the best day of my life” and “I want to come take every class that coaches” 🥰
I have had so many memorable moments here since we opened, but I want to share one that really changed my life for the better. It was the very end of class, the very last sprint of a super hard Brandon class and I had some really stressful stuff going on in my personal life. I really needed to let some stuff go and I decided to dig deep and put it all into this last sprint. I gave it everything I had and as soon as the sprint was over I racked my handlebars and burst into tears. It was exactly what I needed and I felt a lot better after. I try to create a space for people in our studio to use our workouts as therapy and hopefully inspiring others to have experiences like this.
I wish more people knew the mental health benefits of our classes. Aside from physically feeling better (which is huge), you will mentally feel better after taking a Row House class.

🚣♀️ At Row House, speed and power are not the same thing! 💪 Our pacing structure is based on the pressure you are exerting in each stroke (your split time)
**Paddle pace is like a jog (60%-75%)
**Push pace feels like a run (75%-85%)
** Power pace is giving it everything you’ve got! (85%-100%)
🏁BONUS TIP: there should be about a 30 second range between your paddle and power pace so if you paddle at a 2:30 split, your power pace should be about 2:00.
