Congratulations to the winners of the Water-Use Efficiency awards! Large Landscape Transformation Award: Meadowgreen #2 Owners Association - The Meadowgreen #2 Owners Association transformed over 6,000 square feet of lawn into a beautiful low water-use landscape, saving nearly 200,000 gallons of water each year. Large Landscape Transformation Award: The Orchard - The Orchard won this award for transforming over 10,000 square feet of lawn in common areas and encouraging residents to remove an additional 4,000 square feet and saving 315,000 gallons of water annually. Single Family Award: Don and Beth Steffy - The Steffy's installed high efficiency toilets, showerheads, and sink aerators and only run their water efficient dishwasher and clothes washer when they are completely full. Janet uses 2,000 gallons of water less each month than the average single resident in Santa Rosa. Janet also finds creative ways to capture and reuse water inside her home before it ends up going down the drain. Single Family Award: Kitty Uhrich-Mayer - Kitty Uhrich-Mayer is one of the first single-family home residents to complete the Sustained Reduction rebate program. How do you know if you have a leaky toilet flapper? You test it! Place a few drops of food coloring into your toilet tank, and wait 15 minutes. If the bowl turns the color of the dye, you have a leak. If it doesn't, you can rest easy knowing your toilet is not leaking. If you do have a leak, fixing it is as simple as installing a new flapper and can save you thousands of gallons of water a year. Need dye tabs or a toilet repair kit, visit: srcity.org/FixLeaks

Groundbreaking for Recycled Water Project
On Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022, Santa Rosa Water hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the ultraviolet (UV) disinfection replacement project at the Laguna Treatment Plant (LTP). The $68 million project will replace the aged-out UV disinfection system currently in use at the LTP. Replacing the UV disinfection system is so important because it is the very last step in water recycling before it can be reused for irrigation and renewable energy production. This project will ensure safe and reliable water recycling into the future, increase energy efficiency by requiring only half the energy of the current system, improve system redundancy and resiliency, and reduce operations and maintenance costs. The three-year project, funded by customer rates and fees, is a critical and necessary investment to ensure safe and reliable water recycling for the 230,000 people in the region that rely on the LTP for wastewater treatment and watershed protection.
