💧🌱 And just like that... Smart Irrigation Month is almost over! 🌱💧 To round out the month, we have one final tip for you: get to know your yard!
One of the best ways to be smart about your irrigation is to be familiar with the needs of plants in your space. For example, do you know how to water your trees? If you’re not sure, here are a few tips:
⏲️ Water trees slowly and deeply over a long period of time to a depth of 12-18+ inches
🌳 Water in multiple places under the umbrella of the tree’s canopy
☀️ Don’t irrigate trees like Coast Live Oaks that are adapted to go without water during hot summer months
Knowing your yard helps you to customize your irrigation system to the fullest, and that saves water. So take an afternoon to make sure you know what’s growing in your yard, learn about their individual water needs, and ensure your irrigation system is ready to meet them!
Visit SRCity.org/Watering-Recommendations for more information on irrigation, and go to SRCity.org/WaterSmartYard to see all our resources for your outdoor space. Smart Irrigation Month is about to be over, but we can be a 💧🌱 WaterSmart Santa Rosa 🌱💧 all year long!
Santa Rosa Water is a not-for-profit water utility. Our rates reflect the true cost of operating, maintaining, and upgrading Santa Rosa’s water and sewer systems, as well as the recycling and beneficial reuse of the water our community uses. 💧 🌱 Happy week four of Smart Irrigation Month! 🌱 💧 A good foundation for smart irrigation is planting a yard made up of water-efficient plants. If you’re looking to refresh your outdoor space, Sonoma Marin Saving Water Partnership has a Water Smart Plant Picker to help you out. Here’s some questions to get you started on picking your plants:
🌻 What kind of plants are you looking for? (Hedges, bushes, groundcover, vining plants, etc.)
☀️ How much sun does your yard/the area you’re looking to plant get?
🐝 What kind of habitat would you like in your yard? Do you want more bees, birds, butterflies, etc.?
Fill out this info in the site filters, and the Plant Picker will give you a list of perfect plants, including California Natives, that will adapt well to your environment. Visit https://www.savingwaterpartnership.org/programs-rebates/plant-picker/ to try out the Plant Picker and get started on your low-water-use landscaping! 💧🦋🌷

💧🌱 Happy ! 🌱💧 It’s time for a weekly water-use tip. This week, let’s talk about your yard, and all the ways you can save money out there. Santa Rosa Water has a whole page of rebates and incentives to explore, but this week, we’re highlighting the ones that reward you for saving water in your yard:
💰🌾 Cash For Grass Rebate: Lawns use 1-2 inches of water per week, so removing lawn saves water and money. On top of that, SRW will rebate you $1 per square foot of lawn you remove.
💰💧 Irrigation Efficiency Rebate: If your irrigation system is outdated or you’re thinking about converting to a more efficient model, SRW may rebate you for some of the cost up to $300.
💰♻️ Graywater Rebate: Did you know a graywater system lets you use water from your washing machine to water your yard? SRW offers a $100 rebate to install a graywater system.
💰🌧️ Rainwater Harvesting Rebate: SRW offers $0.25 per gallon of compliant rainwater storage.
Check out SRCity.org/Rebates for more information on these rebates and incentives and much more. If we work together, we can all ♻️💧 save water 💧♻️ – and you may save money!
You know what's pretty neat? Ultra-violet disinfection.
In November of 2022, Santa Rosa Water broke ground on the $68 million ultra-violet (UV) disinfection replacement project. This project is an investment in our community’s ability to safely recycle and reuse water, paid for by water rates and fees.

💧🌱July is Smart Irrigation Month! Keep an eye on our page for tips and tricks on saving water in your yard during the summer heat.
This week, let’s talk about irrigation scheduling. Mapping out your irrigation schedule can be intimidating, so here’s a few pointers:
🌙 Water between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. to avoid evaporation
⌛ Water in multiple short cycles rather than a single sustained session to avoid runoff
📆 For drip irrigation or micro-sprays: water 2 times per week June through August
📆 For spray sprinklers: water 3-4 times per week June through August
Get more irrigation scheduling info at our website, SRCity.org/Watering-Recommendations, where we have a full WaterSmart Watering Schedule PDF for download.
🔥🚒💧 With wildfire season here, Santa Rosa Water and Fire are teaming up to ensure our water system is ready to provide ample water supply for firefighting efforts. Our Water is monitoring and operating our community’s water system. Throughout the year, we train for emergency response, including fire-related incidents.
During wildfire season, we closely coordinate with Santa Rosa Fire to strategize on the 24/7 operation of the water system. We also continually invest in upgrading our water infrastructure to improve its resiliency and harden it against threats of wildfires and other natural disasters.
Together, we're prepared to keep our community safe during wildfire season.
