Students in the Urumenesha Troupe (the Traditional Dance Club) perform at different school and community events throughout the year. Here a student is performing the Intore dance, also called the Dance of Heroes, which is traditionally perfomed by men. #rwanda #learnempowerlead #expeditionarylearning #envisioningyourfuture #educate #changemakers #community #rwandaschoolproject #Rwanda #intore #traditionaldance #traditionaldances

Rwamagana Leaders' School hosts their first GETS (Girls Empowered to Synergize) meeting of the term!! This student-run club was started by current RLS seniors to empower girls at our boarding school. Inspiring to see these future female leaders in action!

Reading at RLS
We have a small library of very good books. After ten years of love, some of our books need replacing, and our student body has grown by 40% in the last five years. We are lucky to have an RLS alum as our excellent librarian and she knows the Dewey Decimal System and keeps all the books in great order. Some favorite titles include teen self-help books, accounts of the 1994 Genocide, books about marine life, and yes, Harry Potter and detective stories. Help us maintain and grow it! #nonprofit #love #community #giveback #fundraiser #socialgood #philanthropy #support #charityevent #help #causes #donation #givingback #donations #volunteering #giving #humanity #activism #peace #environment #nonprofitorganization #kindness #helpingothers #bethechange #changemakers #rwandaschoolproject #Rwanda #rwandastudents #helprwanda #fundraiser

Merry Christmas and Welcome!

S4 Environmental Outreach
The S4 Environmental Science class took a field trip to a nearby Primary School, Nshuti Abana, to teach about environmental stewardship. They shared a lesson, a scavenger hunt, crafts, games, and a song! Everyday we are impressed by our students! Enjoy the highlight reel!

Dancing with Joy!
We are dancing with joy as Pastor Shema Vincent joins the RLS community! Pastor Shema (the tall one in the blue shirt, pastor's collar, and dress pants) was recently ordained by the Lutheran Church of Rwanda and he will be serving both the Kayonza Parish and the Rwamagana Parish! Murakaza neza Pastor Shema! Imana ishimwe! (Welcome Pastor Shema, We thank God!)

Keza Ornella January 2018
Today is the first day back to school for the staff, but we have 19 days to go until students arrive! For now, RLS's baby cow, Keza Ornella, is good company, but she's not as good at math and reading as our students :(

S1 Dance Circle
Wednesday fun with the S1 class!

Lead by Example
What does it mean to lead by example? Teacher Jeannete is energetically leading students in a running exercise during sports class, rather than standing on the sideline and telling students what to do! She is a great role model for students learning how to take initiative, participate, and lead!

Boys Dorm Construction
Check out the progress of the boys dorm construction!

S1 Sports Class
There was a lot of cheering and laughing yesterday while the S1 students played a running game during their sports class!

Teacher Theophile
Check out Teacher Theophile teaching Entrepreneurship to S1 students this morning! He always has lots of energy!

Student Thoughts
Hear from O, one of our students who has been studying at RLS since the very first day we opened our doors in 2009!

RLS Drummers
Drumming in Rwanda wasn't always an activity that girls could participate in, as it was typically for the boy only. However, times are changing... and now you can even find complete all-female drumming groups in Rwanda!

Students Share: Learning to Read
β€œRead at every wait; read at all hours; read within leisure; read in times of labor; read as one goes in; read as one goes out. The task of the educated mind is simply put: READ TO LEAD.” ~ Cicero (Roman Statesman, Philosopher, Lawyer)

RLS Choir
An impromptu song from the RLS choir as they said their goodbye's to Melissa Roussin, one of our long-term volunteers who recently went back to America.
