Upon entering the home, visitors ascend a floating stairway that leads them to an open, sky-lit courtyard—the very heart of this dynamic residence. This elevated exterior foyer serves as a central hub, from which one can access either the main house or a charming guest house situated to the side.

We are proud to announce that our 340 Treasure Boat Residence with has won an AIA FLORIDA MERIT AWARD FOR UNBUILT WORK !

The 2024 Design Awards were juried by a panel of experts based in Seoul, South Korea, continuing AIA Florida’s tradition of selecting juries from architecturally rich international cities such as New York, Paris, London, Tokyo, Barcelona, and Panama City.

“This year we were reminded about the universality of architecture and design and its transcendent bridging of the gap through language and cultural differences,” 2024 AIA Florida President, Rhonda Hammond, AIA, shared.  “We were moved by the deep thoughtfulness, time, and attention that the South Korean jury gave each submittal, often remarking on the success of the architects in not only meeting the needs of their clients and programming, but to go beyond - to meet the needs of the environment and integration within communities. It was profound to witness the impact Florida architects have across the world.”

Thank you to all who participated in this year’s awards program. We had a record number of registrations this year. The jury reviewed every project entered and was impressed with the work of architects in our area.

The house is a testament to transparency and light, with extensive glass walls that invite an abundance of natural light while offering unobstructed views of the canal and waterfront. The main living area channels the inhabitants view, creating a serene connection with the outdoors where dolphins frequently play in the canal.

Beneath the house, the pool deck offers a shaded retreat, featuring a lap pool, hot tub, and sun shelf that cater to both relaxation and recreation. The pool deck itself is crafted through several variations in elevation, cascading gently down to meet the waterfront, enhancing the visual and experiential flow from the house to the coastal context.

Indoor and outdoor spaces blur together at the Hidden Harbor Residence. Operable windows allow for bay breezes to pe*****te, and expansive overhangs lined with ipe wood cast cooling shade on outdoor living areas. A louvered panel system can be closed to protect the home during bad weather, such as hurricanes, but on sunny days it filters the light and creates a dynamic play of shadows across the facades.

This new home draws inspiration from traditional Florida cracker architecture, featuring a dog trot (or breezeway) connecting two sections of the house. The centerpiece is a spacious fireplace, inviting residents and guests to gather around and enjoy its warmth from both sides.

Despite its modern design, the residence exudes a rural ambiance reminiscent of the historic Florida cracker homes. The incorporation of an old-school architectural feature, the dog trot—a breezeway that cuts through the center of the home—creates a charming connection between different sections of the residence. This breezeway not only provides a pathway but also acts as a buffer, creating a separate guest suite for visitors while maintaining a communal meeting point on the exterior terrace.
