We all face stressful situations!🫠
Whether it's something as extreme as a hurricane or more routine challenges like meeting deadlines, caring for an infant, attending important meetings, or handling emergencies. While we can’t always avoid these situations, what we can control is how we respond to them.,
When we experience stress, the sympathetic nervous system is triggered, putting our body into "fight or flight" mode. As long as the brain perceives the threat, it releases the cortisol hormone, keeping muscles tense and the body on high alert. To reverse this and reduce cortisol levels, activating the parasympathetic nervous system is crucial.
Asanas, breathing techniques, deep breathing, meditation, yoga nidra are all various practices that help combat stress and anxiety.
Many asanas work specifically on the autonomic nervous system, while breathwork helps calm the system and improve mindfulness and presence of mind. Regular practice improves cardiovascular functioning and reduces activity in the limbic system – the part of the brain dedicated to emotions, thus, reducing emotional reactiveness to triggers.
Your habits shape who you are, and breathing practices are no different—it’s all about consistency.

Navratri( Festival of Nine nights in India) brings back vivid memories of my childhood, when my parents would fast and pray to Maa Durga for nine days with such devotion. I can still picture my mother preparing days in advance, setting up a beautiful idol of Maa Durga and a copper pot with water, crowned with a coconut. She would plant wheat seeds in a clay pot and place other pooja items like flowers and fruits around it.
Their daily sadhana would last for 4-5 hours, and they fasted with simple meals like fruits or milk. Every element in the pooja had meaning—symbolizing cleansing and rejuvenating both body and spirit, in harmony with nature’s cycles, preparing for the harvest.
I mention this now because, being on my own yoga journey, I’ve come to realize how devotion and self-discipline are key to spiritual growth. Looking back, I see how my parents were already on this path through their unwavering devotion.
As a child, I didn’t fully understand the significance of these rituals, but now I see how much I absorbed just by being around them. Happy that, at least I understood the importance of the rituals and practices and I can pass it to the next generation!

Today is also first day of Navratri(Nine nights of celebration in India) which aligns with seasonal transitions, marking the shift from summer to autumn. This time of change is believed to cleanse and rejuvenate both the body and spirit, aligning with ancient agricultural cycles and preparing for the upcoming harvest. The rituals and fasting during Navratri also support physical detoxification, reflecting nature's own process of renewal.

The SEASON is changing, are we changing our diet?😋😋
The seasons affect us not only in how we react to the outside climate but also by the foods that are naturally available to us.
Take a look around and notice what foods come into season in the fall.My last Sunday visit to the farmers market was all about fall vegetables and fruits!
✅Winter squash, pumpkins, apples, beetroot,sweet potatoes, root vegetables and dark leafy greens.
✅While we may enjoy light salads and cold drinks in the summer, fall time begs for highly nutritious, warm, cooked foods and drinks.
✅Adequate protein intake and high-quality oils are essential. It’s good to minimize all dry, rough, cold food.
✅Dry, cold breakfast cereals and raw foods only aggravate the imbalance going on.
✅Warm, wet, deeply nourishing foods like soups, stews, and properly prepared porridges invite in the qualities we are looking for. Add some warming teas and stewed apples to your diet.
✅Using warming spices like ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, and turmeric brings in the qualities we are trying to embody in fall time.

Many told me, "This is a crazy idea. India is too far to travel from the USA." But I believe that those who truly need this journey in their life will find their way here, no matter the distance.
Yoga has become widely practiced in the USA, with over 23 million people embracing it. It’s incredible to see how this ancient practice has traveled from the East to the West, thanks to a few dedicated teachers who brought it here. In the West, yoga is mostly practiced for its physical benefits, which is wonderful—but there’s so much more to it.
Every time, I sit at the Ganga ghats in Rishikesh, I’m overcome with a sense of absolute peace and serenity, as if the entire place is enchanted by some higher power. There’s a stillness in the air that speaks to the soul, and it made me realize why sages have chosen this sacred place for their yoga sadhana (spiritual practice) for centuries. The energy here is transformative, offering a deep connection to both nature and the divine. It's an experience that words can’t fully capture but one you feel when you arrive.
I wanted people from the West to come and experience this side of yoga for themselves, and that’s where with the help of my dear friend Ekta the seed for this retreat was planted.
Anthony's first Yoga class was with me and I could see, that he wanted to dive into this wisdom. He was the first person to sign up for the retreat and I knew that he needed this journey. Along with him, six more beautiful souls joined us on this special journey to Rishikesh in July 2024. It was a transformative experience for Anthony and all of us.
Hope many more can join us next year for a similar experience. The 2025 retreat dates are out to book on the website.
