UPDATE: Cha Cha Coconuts reopened today at 11 a.m. (June 13) for lunch and dinner service, along with sibling Columbia Restaurant on St. Armands Circle in Sarasota.

Our thanks to staff for the amazing work they did during the past 36 hours to return the restaurant to service after an historic rainfall Tuesday night flooded the Circle during dinner service.

UPDATE 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 12: Cha Cha Coconuts, and sibling St. Armands Circle neighbor Columbia Restaurant in Sarasota, and will reopen at 11 a.m. Thursday.

The temporary halt in operations today is for the safety of our customers and so that our staff can recover from Tuesday night’s storm, which briefly flooded the Circle and surrounding neighborhood on Lido Key.

We apologize for the inconvenience. See you on Thursday!

Cha Cha Coconuts will host a Celebration Of Life honoring our dear teammate Marcelo Rodriquez Quiterio on Monday, Feb. 12 from 4-7 p.m., featuring live music by friends Ed Maryon and Jimmy Gillis.

Marcelo lost his battle with Stage 4 cancer on Monday, Jan. 15. He worked with us at Cha Cha Coconuts as a busser for more than 16 years and was an integral part of our restaurant. He greeted everyone with a smile — even the pups visiting St. Armands Circle — he always would bring them water and a dog biscuit wrapped in a Cha Cha’s beverage napkin.

He truly was a kind, sweet soul and spread happiness every moment we knew him. Always smiling, he sincerely loved his job and cared for every customer. He knew our regulars and treated them with respect and love. Marcelo was our “maitre d’,” in a sense.

He was our brother, our friend, and we will miss him dearly.

Everyone knew Marcelo. He was all over the restaurant. He would say things like, “Squeaky clean!” (and make a squeaking noise) when he cleaned each table.
“It is what it is.”
“What’s the plan?”
“And everybody happy!”

He truly was a kind, sweet soul and spread happiness every moment we knew him. Always smiling, you’d never know he had been battling cancer. He sincerely loved his job and cared for every customer. He knew our regulars and treated them with respect and love. Marcelo was our “maitre d’,” in a sense.

He was our brother, our friend, and we will miss him dearly.
