Little Tomato Yoga
Hi! I’m Caroline. I am registered with Yoga Alliance and I teach gentle, trauma-informed yoga at Rock & Soul Wellness in Schenectady, NY.
I also teach via YouTube. I completed my 200-hour training at Inner Bliss in Schenectady, and my trauma-informed certification and yoga nidra certification through My Vinyasa Practice. I hope you will practice with me!
This is true! And while movement is important, it’s also important to remember that poses are just one part of yoga. Yoga includes meditation and other activities. You can do them on a day where your body needs rest more than it needs movement and you’ll still be doing yoga.
Can you believe September is almost over?! If you're struggling with time racing by like I am, let's do some yoga together and get grounded in the present moment. I'll be off the schedule for a couple of weeks, but there's still room in this week's class! Sign up here:

This month, I had to cancel some classes due to travel. It's a good reminder to me that asana, or the physical practice of postures in yoga, is only one of the 8 limbs of yoga. Pratyahara and dharana, which are withdrawal of the senses and focused concentration, are two limbs of yoga that I'm trying to incorporate into my practice more in the meantime. Which of the 8 limbs will you focus on before coming back to class on Sundays in June?

Halfway through February! I don't know about you, but I definitely need to go to more yoga classes.
I've seen a lot of the same questions come up online, so I published a book that I hope will help people. It provides an overview of legal issues, and it includes templates - the paperback version also has a QR code for them. Topics addressed include business structures and registration, taxes and finances, insurance, merchandise, intellectual property, websites, professional licensing, leases and various contracts, liability waivers, and discrimination, diversity, and inclusion.
Legal Considerations for Your Wellness Practice This book provides an overview of legal issues to consider when opening and operating wellness centers that include activities such as yoga and reiki, and it includes templates for a variety of documents. I've done a pretty good job of making my home my sanctuary, but there's some room for improvement with space and discipline for mindfulness practices.

Wellness retreats can be a great way to restore yourself, but they can be expensive, time-consuming, and inaccessible for a lot of people. I have a PDF somewhere with a suggested schedule for an at-home one-day retreat, but anyone could really make their own - snacks (healthy and/or comforting), reading, meditation, yoga, candles, bubble baths, etc. One thing I never considered that's suggested in this article is to take a class online.

I do not enjoy downward dog as much as some of my friends from yoga teacher training, but I use it as a transitional pose between standing poses and those down on the mat. Using blocks has helped me, but I’m looking forward to trying dolphin pose. Do you like down dog? Do you use props or variations to make it more comfortable?
7 Things to do If your wrists hurt in Downward dog – Yogigo Downward dog (Adho Mukha Shvanasana) is one of the most well-known yoga poses for good reason. The pose plays a role in almost all yoga routines and is one of the basic foundational moves of the practice. However, a downward dog may cause unwanted strain on the wrists for those new to yoga, resultin...
Sticking with the restorative vibe for this week, a couple of these supported variations would be fun to try.

Some of the poses mentioned in this article are among my favorites and some are new ones to try. I love yin yoga - I always look forward to classes with Every Path Yoga. I feel like winter is an especially good time for yin yoga, as nature urges us to slow down and restore ourselves for fresh beginnings in the spring.

Fun fact: I hate sun salutations. All the up and down actually triggers migraines for me. I do like half sun salutations, and I've done a couple of cool variations. I am interested in trying the "How to Practice Sun Salutations in Bed" variation mentioned in one of the links here!

Like many people, I have to be careful with inversions. Some are more comfortable than others and some seem to be higher risk than others, for me. This isn't a pose one would think of first when thinking about inversions, but it's a good one. My chiropractor even recommended it when I first started getting treatment for sciatica.

It's too soon to have the best yoga mat cleaners of 2024 (isn't it?) and I'll be interested to see if the list stays the same this year. I often wear yoga socks instead of going barefoot, and I have a yoga mat and set of props that stay home and other sets for going to class. I recently bought Tidy Mat Yoga Cleaner Wipes to try, but I like this article about other options, too. What do you use to clean your yoga mat?

Fun fact: I tried the yoga squat in Jamie's class and in Gina's class at Rock & Soul Wellness and both times I fell over. 😆 That possibility isn't mentioned in this article but I'm going to guess I have to work on my stability!
