Daniel’s Pet Palace

Hi, I'm Brian Barnes. Welcome to Daniel's Pet Palace! We are a small (micro) business located in Rotterdam, New York. We're NOT big and we don't pretend to be!

Our family are huge fans of the television show "Shark Tank". My 12 year old son (Daniel) and I have watched over 150 episodes over the last 4-5 years. Last summer, we read "Rich Dad Poor Dad" (by Robert Kiyosaki) together. We would read a chapter then discuss it over the dinner table for the next 2-3 days. We then moved on to the next chapter and repeated the process until we finished the book. Daniel wasn't able to grasp all of it (neither was I) but I was surprised by how much he was able to understand. Now we are moving on to the next step.

As a family project, we're opening up an on-line store (Danile's Pet Palace) to teach him about entreprenurship and business in general. His on-line store will cater to pet lovers and offer pet themed jewelry at a very affordable price ($10 - $20). We are also in the process of adding several t-shirts that will appeal to people who love their pets.

We hope to teach Daniel about the many aspects of running a successful small business including inventory, revenue, expenses, taxes, marketing and most importantly, customer service! We will break down these categories in bite size pieces so he's able to digest it at a reasonable pace. If all goes well, he MAY even learn a little bit about profits! If we are lucky enough to get to that level, Daniel will also learn about "giving back" to local charitable organizations that serve animals.
