Welcome back! We hope everyone has had a great first few days of spring term!
Today’s student shoutout goes to Aida Girma (Neuroscience Major)! Scroll to read about her senior thesis!
“My name is Aida Girma, and my thesis aims to better understand the relationship between parenting styles and overcoming mental fixation in creative idea generation. We hypothesized that participants that report having caregivers with more authoritarian-like parenting will likely display fewer ideas, fewer original ideas, and be more mentally fixated by the presence of distracting information (i.e., worse creative performance), while authoritative-style parenting should be associated with better creative performance. So far, we are observing that greater parental support is positively associated with overcoming mental fixation, and with cognitive flexibility. I am working on this project with Professor Tim George.”

Today’s psychology student shoutout goes to Hannah Crodelle! Scroll to read about her senior thesis!
“My name is Hannah Crodelle and I will be investigating the psychological underpinnings of conspiracy belief along with Professor Hart. I will be testing a mediation model in which I hypothesize that individuals higher in attachment anxiety will be more likely to believe in conspiracy theories, and that this tendency is better explained by their heightened levels of schizotypy. In conducting this original research, I hope to provide a better understanding of what natural predispositions differentiate a conspiracy believer vs. non-believer.”

Alumni Spotlight! Scroll to read about Dominique Toscano’s journey and accomplishments!
Dominique graduated from Union in 2020 with a major in psychology. Dominique is a second year student at Marywood University's Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program (Psy.D.) in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She is currently working on her professional contribution that is exploring the effects of stress mindset (if an individual views stress as enhancing or debilitating) and chronotype (if an individual is a morning/evening person based on their internal biological clock) on psychological well-being. Dominique is also currently working with a variety of clients at Marywood's Psychological Center as a student therapist. She hopes to work with children, adolescents, and college aged populations in either a university counseling setting or private practice. She has been enjoying graduate school and is excited for the future!
Today’s psychology student shoutout goes to Alina Whiteside! Scroll to read about her senior thesis!
“My name is Alina Whiteside and my thesis involves exploring individual psychological aspects in workplace environments. Specifically, I am investigating the relationship between psychological ownership (ownership one feels over their work) and adult attachment styles on workplace behaviors. I am working on this project with professor Joshua Hart.”

Happy Saturday! Today psychology student shoutout goes to Nuo Chen. Scroll to read about her senior thesis!
“My name is Nuo Chen and my thesis is aimed at better understanding the influence of bilingualism on memory. I hypothesized that bilinguals will outperform monolinguals under specific conditions - when sentence stimuli are presented under auditory and visual modalities. So far, the results have not supported this hypothesis, but I have learned a lot about research and bilingualism through this experience.”
