Why does it smell like cow manure everywhere around the Walmart, Home Depot, Publix area? It’s been like that for an hour at least and it’s pretty bad…. and no it’s not just me! Lol!
What a strange coincidence for fuel prices to always go down right before a national election… go figure?
I would like to thank everyone that came out to the park Sunday for my 43rd First Monday Art Sunday, it turned out to be a great Show…..The weather was great, until it wasn’t ( about 3:30) but luckily I don’t think anyone lost anything to the wind. By the way, if anyone missed the 10 minute interview that I did with Channel 48, it was edited to maybe 15 seconds on the News Sunday Evening! Lol!
Well, it’s that time of year again, I would like to invite all my friends and patrons to join me at First Monday Art Sunday this weekend. This will be my 43rd year in a row….if it wasn’t for the COVID year and the weather cancelation year before last it would be 45 in a row. I have a few new pieces, including this Grizzly Bear and a lot of custom rustic framed pieces this year. It’s going to be hot, but a little break from the 90’s, I think I read 88 degrees. Hope I see you First Monday Art Sunday!
It is somewhat refreshing to see both Republicans and Democrats come together on demanding answers from the head of the Secret Service on not only the assignation attempt, but how the American public can be confident that all public officials and the citizens around them are going to be properly protected after such a major lack of both the effectiveness and accountability of this agency…. This is probably the first non-partisan event that I’ve witnessed in Washington since the shooting at the Congressional Badeball practice 7 years ago. It’s sad when only a tragedy brings politicians together for a common cause.
For those not watching, basically every answer to every member is “I can’t answer that until the investigation is complete”…. frustrating, to say the least.
Africanized Honeybees found in Jackson and St. Clair counties The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries announced that Africanized Honeybees have been found in Jackson and St. Clair counties.
Come check out our booth at “Patches” located next door to Tractor Supply on South Broad Street, we have a lot of items that would make great Fathers Day gifts and everything is 15% off …. message me if you have any questions!
Just finished framing a good friends Police Badges along with other pins, buttons, etc. that shows his journey of public service. …. First time I’ve done one of these in a while and it was a challenge but really fun laying out the arrangement for this kind of project.
Let me know if you have anything to commemorate yours, or a family members public or military service, they make great gifts that are unique to say the least.
Big shout out to La Cabaña by Juan’s, we showed up after graduation, actually after 9:00 with a group of 14, no idea if they were open or if they would even seat us….,, they could not have been nicer or more accommodating, moving tables around ( they were actually pretty full) and making a place for us with about a 5 minute wait. Out waitress was so sweet and patient, we had 6 little kids…… AND the most important thing, the food was great ( I had a steak fajita quesadilla)!
I hate to say it’s the first time I’ve ate there, but definitely will be a regular for us!
I was very sad to see this news in the Clarion Obituaries…. My mentor Rick Stone from Pisgah passed away last week….it was Ironic that I was talking to a mutual friend, that had an original Portrait of himself painted by Rick, if he had any news about Rick and his condition since a motorcycle accident over a decade ago, it was actually that very day that we were both wondering what happened to him that he had passed away.
Rick met me when I was basically a “black and white” medium artist and decided that I needed to try color. When he saw my first painting ( around 1984) and my love of ducks, he talked me into entering the Alabama Duck Stamp Competition….. I was second runner up that year. The following year, with a lot of guidance I was first runner up, then the third attempt in 1987 I won the 10th Anniversary Alabama Duck Stamp.
As far as any talent as a painter, and the LOVE of detail, I owe a lot of that to Rick and the example he set for me. Rest in peace my friend, I hope you know how much I appreciate the help that you gave me when I first got started.

It took 40 years to somewhat know where my regular stuff was located in Walmart, now I have to start all over….. I know that I look lost in there!
I did this original drawing of the Hodges Hospital 42 years ago and it’s been in my studio closet for decades unframed (I had prints made and never got around to it)… it’s time! I had taken some of the door trim from the Hospital when they were tearing it down probably around 1984, and made A LOT of picture frames with the wood to frame prints of the Hospital ( Cool idea that Bama Bob Yates came up with). These “Address Numbers” were on one of the pieces of door trim pieces and I figured that it was the address… “26” or “62” Laurel Street? If so, I wanted to incorporate the numbers on the matting or on the frame ( maybe) but no idea if they were the actual numbers for the address…… I was wanting to know if any out there might have an old Scottsboro phone book from the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s or 70’s, I would think that the address would be listed for the Hodges Hospital…. If anyone has one and could let me know I would surely appreciate it!
I have sort of a unique piece of art for sale, “Sitting Pretty” Canvas #28/100, measures 29” x 33”…. $250
The frame is wood that came out of the old store located near Black Ankle -Chicken Foot ( Tupelo Pike area) owned by Darrell Evett, he let me take a lot of wood from the store before it was razed, this was some of the door trim painted in what I call the “50’s Green”.
I’m starting to do a lot more unique, one of a kind frames from places I’ve collected wood over the years….I have another that I will post from wood that came off Cecil Words old Barn at Plantation Point. Message, text or call if you’re interested in this piece, or having something framed in your own special wood. 256-259-4255”
And I thought the original version was good!
I hate to announce this but today was the final “Bama Wildlife Show”. I have been part of the Show for right at 6 years every Friday morning, so approximately 300 Shows, 300 Trivia Contest, and 300 pieces of Artwork given away.
Greg and I will talk over the next few weeks and we might come up with another format for a new Show, but we’ll see….. finding someone to take Bobby’s place and coming up with ideas for a Show interesting enough to draw listeners and find sponsors will take a little time…. I would love to keep it going.
I want to say thank you to everyone that ever listened and especially those that called in for the trivia or with questions to the wildlife experts (not me!), it was really an honor.
