I’m here to tell you to drop everything (but still drive safely, we’re all about good vibes here) and head over to this weekend because the shade expansion from is *coming in hot*—and my copper queens NEED to try this formula on their next canvas. 👩‍🦰👩🏻‍🦰👩🏽‍🦰👩🏼‍🦰

Here’s the ☕️: First, we tackled a bleach retouch using lightener, paired with a root retouch from in shade 5-4. Then, we glossed 3/4 of her hair with a mix of ✨ 50g 6-46 (a stunning copper red) and ✨ 10g 5-65 (a rich red violet), and the remaining 1/4 with ✨ Hustler. Processed it all for 10 minutes, then gave her the full Olaplex treatment before styling her to absolute perfection. ✨

Honestly, the -46 and -65 shades might be my new obsessions!!! I’ve always loved the -8 series, and I’m super pumped for the -7, but THIS COPPER, you guys. 🔥

Let’s talk about alopecia. I did a dangerous experiment for science. I left in extensions that were too tight, causing traction alopecia, just to document the journey. Science often needs research and experiments for evidence, right? So, I kept my too-tight install for about 4-5 weeks to see the effects firsthand.

While I was experimenting, life, including our wedding planning, was happening. My husband, Chris, went for his regular haircut every 4-5 weeks but came home with a surprise - a bald spot. We thought it was a haircut mishap, but after posting on the forum, the community was divided. Some found it odd, others immediately recognized it as alopecia. It was a perfect circle and seemed to appear out of nowhere. Well, not quite “nowhere” as we later understood.

Here are some types of alopecia:

🌟 Alopecia Areata: Like Chris’s sudden bald spot, this is when the immune system mistakenly targets hair follicles, causing patchy hair loss.

🌟 Androgenetic Alopecia: A gradual thinning, often hereditary, and interestingly, genes for male pattern baldness can come from your mother’s side.

🌟 Cicatricial Alopecia: This rare type replaces hair follicles with scar tissue, preventing regrowth.

🌟 Traction Alopecia: Like my experiment, caused by tight hairstyles, it can be reversible if caught early.

🌟 Alopecia Totalis: All hair on the scalp is lost, a more advanced stage of Alopecia Areata.

🌟 Alopecia Universalis: The most extreme, resulting in hair loss over the entire body.

Our experience with alopecia was eye-opening. Whether it’s for science, a surprising discovery, or just life unfolding, it’s a journey worth sharing. Here are some photos from our alopecia adventure. Remember, hair or no hair, we are all uniquely beautiful! 💖

PS don’t do this at home. Obv you can’t control stress and your immune system, but try to limit tight hairstyles and if your extensions hurt for more than 72-hours, tell your stylist.

Back in February, I had the chance to go to Cancun with Danger Jones. It was an amazing experience. Although I’ve shared some posts about it, I tend to keep the most significant moments to myself, thinking they might not resonate with others. 👀

During the trip, asked us about our “why.” Without hesitation and with full clarity, I stood up and shared mine. We’ll get to that in a moment. Throughout the weekend, stylists from across the U.S. approached me, expressing how much my “why” resonated with them. I thanked them, explaining that I was simply speaking my truth.

Fast forward to this past weekend in Orlando at Premiere. I was surrounded by many of the same stylists and had the chance to stand with the staff. They told me that when they think of Cancun, they think of me and my “why.” I awkwardly thanked them and expressed my appreciation. Accepting compliments, especially those related to my work + personal life, is challenging for me.

So, what is my “why”? Why do I get up every day and share my journey as Tessa Scissorhands on social media? Why do I continue to post about ? Why do I do what I do?

My “why” is you. My “why” is to be the resource I never had. ✨

In this industry, there are so many people, brands, ideas, and rumors. It’s challenging to navigate, filter through the marketing, and find the truth, the science, the “why” and “how.” I want people to feel they can approach me, DM me, ask questions, and get a response. I was tired of reaching out to industry pros who never replied.

21 years ago today, my grandfather passed away. While my family was gathered - my dad took my brother and I to Burger King to get lunch. Moments after we left, he took his final breath.

I miss my grandfather. I have fond memories of how he brought together our family during the holidays. He was good energy and good people.

I often wonder what our relationship would’ve been like as we (the grandchildren) aged and if he would’ve been proud of the paths all of us have taken. Or rather how proud of us he would have been.

My grandfather was not the first self employed in our family. In fact, his dad owned the Sadow Hat Co. out of New York. It’s why I joke that our family has mad hatters disease - ps it’s just neurodivergence lol.

Spotted in bolo ties and turquoise, I miss you and Grandma. I hope we’ve made you proud.
