2021 Futurity Judge: BARB HANES

Barb Hanes is an equine professional with over 40 years of experience. She possesses a unique and diverse background in the horse industry that includes training, instruction, coaching, writing, consulting and judging. She is responsible for the development and success of numerous local, regional and national champion horses and riders in a variety of breeds and disciplines. These include American Saddlebred, Arabian, Morgan, Hackney, Flat Shod Walking Horse, Saddleseat Equitation, Hunter Seat Equitation and Western and Gaited Dressage. She is the lead horsemanship instructor for “Horsense” a Scottsdale outreach program for 9 and 10 year old children that uses horses to focus on developing respect, responsibility and character. In addition, Hanes has been guiding and training the horse and officer teams of the Scottsdale Police Mounted Unit for over 14 years. Most recently, Barb retired from her position as an adjunct faculty member in the Equine Science Department at Scottsdale Community College after 34 years of teaching to allow her the time to further develop her boutique training and instruction business and to launch her newest business venture, “Vacation Horse Care”, a business specializing in all aspects of equine care in the owner’s absence. Barb has judged numerous shows in Ohio, Minnesota, and Arizona and is nationally recognized for her talents.

We are so excited about this new program! We have teamed up with the Arabian Shows and have created an Academy Show Circuit with High Points! The academy division continues to grow and we feel this will make it even stronger. Good Luck!

Ever wonder what happens to the winners of the ASAA Scholarship?

Our inaugural winner, Caitlin Moffett, went on to graduate with a BS in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Arizona while being part of multiple clubs including the UA Equestrian Team, playing Snow White while visiting children dealing with medical issues for A Moment of Magic, working with Make-A-Wish as a Wish Granter, and serving on the Engineering Student Council. She is now working on an advanced degree in Biomedical Engineering and has a project entered in the AZ Bio Awards dealing with space! https://www.azbio.org/contestants/caitlin-moffett
