Tena Hughes is a living miracle. More than once, she attributes the care she received at HonorHealth to saving her life.
In 2021, Tena was diagnosed with Covid-19. She went to the emergency room complaining of headaches and a doctor found late-stage melanoma tumors all over her body. Eight surgeries and three years later, Hughes is still on the road to recovery.
Most recently, the HonorHealth Research Institute started offering a new cancer therapy that specifically targets melanoma. Tena was one of the first patients to be successfully treated for cancer with a new type of immunotherapy known as TIL, or tumor infiltrating lymphocytes, which began clearing within days of her treatment.
“By the time her cancer had come back after her most recent surgery, it really aligned when we were able to start offering this treatment,” said Dr. Justin Moser, an associate clinical investigator with HonorHealth Research Institute.
