Painted this quick color sketch of the Aare River in my sketchbook this afternoon.
From the very moment I looked at the river I knew I had to paint it. This little sketch was a great way to start the new year..

Charcoal drawing after Bargue Plate #54
It is not finished, but it is finished. I committed to "completing" 3 Bargue drawings this month. This is number three. He spent more time languishing on my easel than being worked on for sure.
For non-artist who wonder why anyone would subject themselves to this type of drawing I'll put some notes in the comments below.
RIP Wayne Thiebaud. Such a wonderful artist and delightful person. Love his terrific honesty and wit in this short clip Made me smile and also inspired me for a strong (and at times agonizing) finish to my drawing studies this month.

"And when he had put his hand on mine with a cheerful look, wherefrom I took courage, he brought me within to the secret things."
- Dante Alighieri
The studies continue. A couple of pages from last week. My sketchbook is one of the places I ask questions, test and explore. Visual pondering in a place words can't reach. The touch of a hand can change a life forever.
“Midway upon the journey of our life, I found myself within a forest dark, for the straightforward pathway had been lost.”
- Dante
My self imposed art "boot camp" continues. Sharing today's sketch book. Testing a new color palette. Considering indirect painting (want to see if it fits with my vision AND temperament) Always more questions than answers. Always exploring.
