Happy Summer! We love walking the beautiful neighborhood in search of new growth and tall trees as tall as giants. 🌳

Eldergrow Classes🌱 are therapeutically engaging! We enjoyed smelling fresh herbs like mint and parsley. We loved discovering the Rose
of Jericho aka the resurrection plant from Mexico and Western Asia. This plant can survive without water up to 7 years! Once the plant becomes wet, it opens up and turns green.
It symbolizes prosperity, resilience, & spiritual awakening. The false rose of Jericho is of the moss family, and the true rose of Jericho is of the mustard family.

At our community, art is a big component! We love water coloring, painting, creating sail boats, and staying creative. We look forward to our next project.🎨

We had a lovely Father's Day weekend celebration. We've enjoyed delicious BBQ ribs and all the fixings along with it, root beer floats and a great concert by Johnny! Hope everyone had a wonderful Father's day. 🎉

Summer is quickly approaching and the weather has been fabulous! Our community has been enjoying walks in the neighborhood. There are so many beautiful trees, plants, and flowers to enjoy. We love whistling to the birds and watching the bumbling bees collect nectar and pollen. 🌷

Residents worked on some Father's Day gifts🎁 for our neighbors! We had a blast making beautiful art fish filets! We are looking forward to our upcoming Father's Day BBQ!

In this week's Eldergrow class, residents learned about the health benefits of botanical preservation and made their own Botanical Bookmarks! 📖

We had a lovely afternoon staying creative in Painting Class👩‍🎨!

We took residents to the Sammamish Animal Sanctuary🐾. Their mission is to give neglected, abused, or unwanted barnyard animals a second chance and a loving home. The sanctuary is supported exclusively by donations and volunteer work. We purchased buckets of veggies to share with the friendly animals. One of our residents was even allowed to brush the highland cow!
What an amazing adventure!

Sundays are for ice cream sundaes! We have sweet treats and matinee movies every Sunday afternoon here at Northgate.

Another afternoon of painting! We painted apples in bowls and talked about all the many health benefits of an apple a day. Art classes at Cogir of Northgate help strengthen dexterity and creativity with our residents.

We make sure to distribute fun crossword puzzles, word searches, and other brain games, they keep our residents' minds engaged and active. They love the challenge and reward of solving these puzzles. 🎲

It was a full house at Cogir of Northgate for a phenomenal performance by singer Jeffrey Brewer! The residents absolutely loved him! Thank you for sharing your talents with us, Jeffrey!

In this week's art class, we painted red barns and reminisced about the farms we visited when growing up. It is such a joy listening to each resident as they remember and share special memories. Another successful afternoon of art! 🖼

Kaylee Allen is a board-certified music therapist, raised in the PNW and graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston. She is the founder and owner of Seattle Music Therapy, LLC. She has been working with seniors in memory care and hospice for a decade. Kaylee is also an adjunct professor in the Settle Pacific Music Therapy department. We are so thankful to her for sharing her incredible performances and her caring heart. Every Wednesday at 10:30 AM she sings for us, each week a different theme! Thank you so much Kaylee!

On May 11th, we held a Mother's Day celebration by hosting lunch at our community. We are beyond thankful for each and every mother here, both residents and staff. Happy Mother's Day to you all!

Last week in Eldergrow class, residents learned the traditions of May Day and Mother's Day, the meaning of different flowers, and then created traditional May Baskets full of flowers to hang!

We made beaded jewelry at Cogir of Northgate! It was so much fun helping the residents create their own unique, wearable art. Very fashionable indeed!

Every Thursday morning, we welcome Delia to lead a Tai Chi class to our Northgate residents. Known for its slow, intentional movements, Tai Chi is popular as a form of gentle exercise fused with moving meditation, with benefits to mental and physical health. Thank you, Delia!

We made adorable coffee filter butterfly decorations with our residents at Northgate. Such a fun way to create bright pops of color for our Mother's Day celebration!

Our Cinco de Mayo fiesta was a great party 🎉! We spent time learning about the country of Mexico 🇲🇽 and enjoying yummy treats 😋. The best part was making our own maracas and playing them to traditional music! It was such a fun event and we're so happy the residents loved it! 😊

We threw a birthday party to celebrate our very dear residents born in April! Wishing a very Happy Birthday to our special friends at Northgate! 🥳🎉🎂

In the latest Eldergrow class, Cogir of Northgate residents learned about the history of botanical preservation for scientific research and then created their own herbarium sheets! What a creative way to learn about the plants growing in our very own garden! 🌱🌿

On April 23rd, Cogir of Northgate attended the La Connor Tulip Festival! Our residents were so excited to go, and the day was such a marvelous success! The flowers were incredibly beautiful, and we were blessed with sunshine! We cannot wait to attend next year! Thank you to our amazing staff who made this trip possible! 🌷🌷🌷

Today we created abstract watercolor art! Just look at these absolutely gorgeous pieces made by our talented residents. We strive to regularly bring art activities into daily life here at Cogir of Northgate.

Bailey is back! This sweet lab is such a blessing to our community. We are so thankful when she visits and brightens our residents' day. We can't wait for the next visit!

In this weeks' ElderGrow class, we planted sunflowers and decorated their pots! 🌻🪴 Such a cheery activity and the residents loved it! Join us next Monday morning for another special gardening class! 🙂
