Sunday funday with Clark at the .dogs event
What could be more fun than chasing a ball with your dog? Agility Funday is held on Sundays from 2pm to 5pm at West Seattle Wonder Dog, with classes for dogs of all sizes, breeds, and ages over 8 months, as well as their owners.
At home or at an area they frequent regularly, most dogs will pick up new commands quickly. However, when we expose them to the wider world, they encounter new sights and noises. Dogs have excellent discernment skills but suffer from poor generalization abilities. Spend the time necessary to train them in new settings to get the desired outcomes.
Remember that every time your dog ignores you in favor of a distraction, your dog is practicing ignoring you.
“One of the great pleasures of being with dogs is their spontaneous expression of what they are feeling.” – Suzanne Clothier
How can you expect your dog to listen to you if they do not give you their full attention in every environment?

Hiking with Your Dog Hiking with your dog is a fantastic way to spend time in nature while also getting in some exercise. While certain canine breeds are more suited to the outdoors than others, practically any dog can go hiking with you as long as you adjust the hike's length and difficulty to suit your dog's physical....

Managing Your Dog's Energy A lot of dogs are made to work with people or do certain jobs. Some pets can get bored if they can't use these instincts, which can lead to behavior problems. If you have a high-energy dog at home, you can keep them busy and active by giving them "jobs" or "responsibilities" around the house.

Loose Leash Walking Leash training is fairly simple in theory, takes some time and patience, but is well worth it. The time you spend pulling your dog back and forth now (or being frustrated by their pulling) can be better spent rewarding them for their good behavior and changing the entire walk experience forever.

Leash Problems It's frustrating enough to have to convince your dog that it's time for a walk, but then to have to deal with constant pulling the entire time. While not uncommon, this behavior can be extremely annoying to anyone who owns a dog. It is common for puppies to exhibit leash-related behavioral issues su...

Accepting the Dog You Have Dogs, like humans, are all unique individuals. It would be a mistake to think that the same tactics will be helpful with your new pup because your experience with prior dogs has made you the responsible and capable owner you are now. The individuality of each dog is undeniable.

It's shocking that the majority (77%) of dog bites occur at the hands of a known dog owner, either a relative or close friend.
That's right; these aren't some crazed, stray, violent dogs; they're OUR DOGS!
This is a tragic number, but it also means that WE have the power to alter the situation.
Bites are not random occurrences, and your children's behavior around the dogs they love and live with can have a significant impact on their safety. Misunderstandings occur all too frequently. Dogs are expected to understand human preferences, but we often have no idea how to interpret their own.
It's no secret that getting a good education is crucial to achieving success.
Stop the 77 - The Family Dog ARE YOUR KIDS AND DOG SAFE? It’s hard to believe that 77% of dog bites come from a family or friend’s dog. That means that these aren’t crazy, stray, vicious dogs - they are OUR pet dogs!

HELP!!! My Dog Eats P**p!!! The question of why our dogs eat f***s is the most revolting to most owners, even more so than their other disgusting habits (like drinking from the toilet, rolling in swamp muck, or licking their butts). Although this may not be their intention, their actions still have that effect on us humans. Be...

Resourse Guarding When a dog is eating or playing with a toy, knowledgeable dog owners and individuals who are dog-aware typically know not to bother the animal. Simply put, you never know how they'll react, so it's best to avoid bothering them. While eating or playing, some dogs don't mind being caressed, interrupte...

Why Management is Important As a professional dog trainer from Ohio, I learned certain management skills by listening to adults around me argue about how to handle dogs when I had a gut feeling that they were wrong. Since then, I've made it my mission to educate dog owners on how to improve their canine companions' behavior. F...

10 Important Things to Teach Your Puppy In what ways does one's name matter? Oh, it means absolutely nothing if your pet is unaware of it. Say the puppy's name, and then give them something they enjoys doing. Puppies often grow up hearing their name screamed at them, and they eventually learn to run away whenever they hear it.
