Also great for sore low backs after lots of sitting or sleeping on your side! This stretch is intended to be held for a couple minutes at a time. Start with just a minute and see how you feel. Never stretch to the point of pain! You can make this a more active stretch (=more neuromuscular release) by lifting your leg up to the ceiling and then slowly lowering it.. and rotating your knee inwards and outwards... basically just playing with what movement feels good in this position. The most important rule is that you should always be comfortable! For example, if your massage therapist took your arms out from under the sheet to massage them and left them like that, but now you're cold, go ahead and move your arms back under the blanket. Your MT can deal with it. Your needs come first. If you have a larger body and your arms don't fit next to you on the table, there's several options: 1) Tuck your hands under your sides, if comfortable 2) Create a sling out of the sheet, like a little hammock, so your arms can hang off the sides & still be supported (ask your MT about it!) 3) Use table extenders to make the table wider (I have these and am happy to set them up for your appointment, just let me know ahead of time!)
