to a beautiful retreat weekend in Whistler with Voyager's Table!

It’s tricky to put into words how grateful I am for our Voyager team. I had the privilege of taking this☝🏼group of happy, tired humans, plus partners and families, up to Whistler for a whirlwind getaway to celebrate all the hard work they’ve been putting in over the past few months. Missing a few of our rockstars who couldn’t join us but equally as grateful for them too.

We’ve been on this voyage (oh yes I did) for a little while now, but even still, there’s moments where I sit back in our meetings, look at them all engrossed in solving a problem, energised over a project or excited about our vision, and I think “How the heck did I get so lucky?”.

I consider myself the envy of other CEOs that they choose to put their heart and soul into what we do, and I know I won the leadership lottery when they all agreed to be in this beautiful mess with me.

People and teamwork are everything.

On 9/29/18 we welcomed a new little one into our family. After taking some time to recover, get to know her, sell our condo, buy a new house, move, tame a wild toddler, celebrate the holidays and take our first plane trip as a family of 4 (yes, it was a busy 4 months!!) — I’m excited to jump back into work! Having 2 kiddos is definitely a new level of balancing act 👦🏼👶🏻

Excited to have our incredible 'momager' Erica back from maternity leave and welcome a new little Voyager, sweet Ella, to our family! 👶🏻

A big topic at our leadership retreat this weekend was how we strive to make Voyager’s Table a diverse, inclusive, flexible and family-friendly place.

Speaking from our experience, we can attest to the fact that working and creating in this kind of an environment brings out the best in us - creatively and professionally.

We hope that the future brings environments like that for all! 💕

It also doesn't have to be a stressful task with tons of prep-work. Here are some of our favorite on-the-fly feedback strategies:

1. Call the person over to shadow as you update their work

2. Share the before and after of one thing you want to change and why

3. Employ a “More of This, Less of That” strategy by finding one spot where a certain skill is strong, and another where it’s weak

4. Send over a helpful article with a few sentences about how it applies to their work

5. Show a good example of the work from the outside world and discuss what can and can’t be applied to their project

6. Have them come sit in with you when you’re getting critiqued on a similar skill

7. Ask to shadow the person when they’re doing the skill next

8. Pair up the person struggling with a concept with someone who is great — now your high-performer can get some experience coaching, too!

Looking back on this beautiful night a few weeks ago with delicious food by Chef Justin Khanna and amazing drinks by Haley Holman / El Tesoro Tequila for the Voyager's Table Summer Tasting Dinner.

We had 20 tickets available for the intimate dinner - the first event we’ve done like this - and I was blown away by the response we received! The event SOLD OUT within ONE WEEK! Most of the attendees found out about the event via our Instagram community that I have helped foster - which shows you the power of social media!

My personal favs were the halibut cheeks and fun make your own rim station for the strawberry infused tequila cocktail (going to make it myself!)

Finally checked out the BurnCycle SEA studio in Capitol Hill and loved the fun quotes they had post around - and great energy from the instructor! 🚲 They held free pop up classes at a speakeasy in Pioneer Square this summer which I thought was an awesome marketing move to build buzz ahead of their grand opening 💪🏼
