Tribute to Juan Mendez - Silent Servant 💔🥹
A true loss today of the dark underground legend Juan Mendez aka Silent Servant whose work fusing alternative 80s styles with techno rhythms inspired me to become a club DJ about 8 years ago 💔 He was a truly humble, genuine artist whose support of others in the scene and pure love of sharing art was unmatched. It was a pleasure to have known him and been inspired by his immense artistic output and passion 🥹💗 I have a lifetime of thanks to Juan for showing me you can get people dancing to unconventional sounds and that you’re never too weird for the club. Every time we met he was always so kind and down to earth, and I’ll always remember him showing me his weirdo 80s post-punk musical influences on his phone one night, like how other people show off their baby pics. His artistic vibrance and unpretentiousness showed through in every encounter I had with him. I saw him for the last time last December in Los Angeles and met his wife for the first time (RIP), I so looked forward to collaborating with him in the future and am devastated to no longer have the opportunity to share in that musical vision. I can only strive to help continue his legacy through how it inspired me to create, and how that in turn will help to inspire others beyond me, and know that his influence will live on in a legion of dark electronic producers and DJs touched by his work. Rest in power 💔
