The Southard Ribbon-cutting Celebration Live Stream
Join Homestead at 10 AM, Friday, June 28, on YouTube & Facebook as we live stream our Southard ribbon-cutting event and celebrate the completion of Homestead's latest net-zero energy, Salmon Safe affordable homeownership development in Tukwila!
This project’s name recognizes Patti Southard, a local green-building activist, who advocated for the development and its green-built standard. In partnership with King County, June 28th will be celebrated as Patti Southard Day!

The Southard development offers 11 affordable-rate three to four bedroom cottage-style homes, five market-rate homes, and two homes designed for adults with developmental disabilities in partnership with Parkview Services. All homes are designed to a Net-Zero energy standard and feature solar panels and energy-saving construction methods and appliances.
Each year, Homestead recognizes those who champion social equity and justice by increasing opportunities for low- and moderate-income individuals to become homeowners. This fall, we will announce the winners of two prestigious awards during our annual benefit event. The first award, The Ryan Neff Award, honors those who showcase leadership and innovation in creating first-time home buying opportunities for modest-income King County residents. The second award, The Cooper Legacy Award, celebrates individuals who embody and further the values of social justice, equity, and community engagement in fostering homeownership. Community land trusts were born in the United States but they exist all over the world. Earlier this week, Homestead welcomed Hannah Emery-Wright, consultant for London CLT. Hannah, who previously served as a Communities Manager for the London CLT, is on a tour of community land trusts across North and South America, harvesting learnings from CLTs large and small that she can take back to the UK. She is also generously sharing what she has learned with CLTs here in the Pacific Northwest. Hannah serves on the board for the European Community Land Trust Network.
