Annie's Art and Frame

Independently owned and uniquely Ballard since 1990.

Like the dynamic neighborhood we call home, Annie's Art and Frame hasn't stopped growing, changing, and evolving since day one. What started out as a frame and poster shop in 1990 has grown into something more akin to an interactive art gallery. We still frame posters, but now we've also got unique Seattle-made gifts, a letterpress studio, and we even do installations. We're known for our service,

While you’re out and about for , stop in to see some of Julie Park’s incredible photography! There’s no official this month, but we’re doing one anyway 😉 This collection captures the spirit of Seattle and Ballard with Julie’s unique view of some iconic spots. Framed and matted prints are available for sale and will stay on display for the rest of July. We won’t be open late like our usual artwalks, so be sure to stop by before 6pm tonight!

This stunning beauty is all about color! The red, teal and yellow combo really pops and feels like an extension of the art. The yellow isn’t actually part of the frame - this piece is called a fillett, and it sits under the rim of the frame, on top of the glass. Not only does it add a complementary color, it also brings a feeling of depth to the frame. Filletts come in all kinds of colors and textures, and are a great way to make your custom frame feel extra-custom! The beautiful watercolor is by . It was a pleasure working on this piece!

Sonny Angels are back! We seriously cannot keep these little guys in the shop - they just fly off the shelves! This time we have the Flower series, and the Animal series versions 1, 3, and 4! DM if you want us to put any on hold for you. Supplies are limited! .usa

This series came together so beautifully. It’s a great example of how to tie together a multi-color series with the same frame, by adding color-coordinated bottom mats for each piece. It’s subtle, but works really well. The customer picked these beautiful pieces up on a trip to Oaxaca, but sadly doesn’t have any info on the artist besides the signature. If any happens to know the artist, please let us know so we can give credit!

A couple weeks ago we posted about our handy “Jort join” used to join float frames. Well, now you get to see one of these frames in use!

Float frames are ideal for stretched canvas art. The frame is totally open in the front, no glass, and the art is typically mounted with a slight gap between the painting and the frame. This makes it look as if the painting is “floating” in the frame, hence the name!

This beautiful painting by .b.schneider_modern_art was brought in by a fairly regular customer. We chose this black floater with a hint or orange topaz at the edges, which perfectly compliments the subtle colors of the art. We are so happy with the finished result!

This Saturday is a very special event in Ballard. It’s the summer and both in one night! Join us from 6-9pm on the 8th to celebrate our local community. The cocktail trail is for ticket-holders only (and is currently sold out), but ArtWalk is still free to attend, as always!

Our June artist is painter and muralist , AKA ✨Grace Gonzalez✨

“Grace Gonzalez is a Mexican-American artist and illustrator who aims to imagine speculative future mythologies. Her work invites the public to engage in generative thinking on what that mythos could be and what we could value. She utilizes animal figures, vibrant colors, and surreal landscapes to infuse her work with a sense of story. Her contribution to this conversation is a visual narrative that centers and celebrates that which ends and entropies.“

Follow for more of Grace’s incredible work, and we’ll see you this Saturday!

Trade secret: when joining float frames, which are open in the front and trickier to join than regular frames, you need a “Jort Join” (totally not a thing we just invented lol). This handy little jig is summer ready in their “jean shorts” 🤣👖Now we just need a little sunshine! 😎

They also provide educational programs, event spaces, and other services to enrich the local community and revitalize the Methow Valley economy.

This project was super fun, and we’re so excited to share it! What you see here is the clapperboard used in the feature film , filmed entirely on-location here in Seattle! The cameraman from this production brought it in for us to create something special to display it, and we decided on this beautiful shadowbox design with a bright yellow and teal color scheme. The actual clapperboard appears in the finished film, and it was so cool to see it in action!

is best described as a “second coming of age” comedic drama. It’s a wonderfully fun, quirky, and heartwarming film that leaves you feeling inspired. And it’s such a pleasure seeing our beautiful city featured on the silver screen! We can’t recommend this movie enough. Go stream it over on or and support these incredible local filmmakers!

“Ziti - The Chunky One” is possibly one of the cutest pieces we’ve ever framed! This commemorative banner deserved something really special. We went with this gold ornate moulding from the “Fenice” series by .inventory, and a cream fabric-covered mat background to add texture. The banner was sew-mounted to ensure it stays in place without using any permanent adhesives that could damage the art. We’re so pleased with the result!

Here’s a fun one with a little secret…it’s two frames in one! This technique is called “stacked framing” - it’s when you take a smaller frame and nest it inside a larger frame (like the Russian doll of framing). When you design in this way, the possibilities are endless! With so many colors, combos, and textures to play with, it’s like opening a Pandora’s box of creativity! You’re guaranteed to end up with something totally one-of-a-kind and unique to you.

Swipe to see this adorable guys new “frame home”! This piece by , titled “His Granny Knitted it!”, really deserved something special. We chose a bright yellow frame to complement the red and blue color scheme, and the colored bevels in the BriteCore mats by perfectly echo the stripes in his hat! The frame is part of the “Confetti” series by , and it comes in more colors than you can imagine! So it’s ideal for projects like this one. We just love how it turned out!!

Attention chocolate lovers! COCO Chocolatier is a sustainable confectionery based in Scotland, and their goodies taste just as amazing as their artistic packaging looks. A little info from their website:

“Challenging industry norms, we begin the making of our chocolate at origin before passionately transforming it in Edinburgh, Scotland. As a result, more wealth remains within developing economies.

COCO is a canvas for artists and artisans alike: those who dare to innovate, inspire and challenge.”

We are so proud to be stocking . Not only is their chocolate sustainably delicious, but it looks so darn good on our shelves too 😉
