Great news! The verdict is in, and the Commission has voted: our Grab and Go Takeout window is here to stay! 🎉
Thank you to everyone who sent in emails, letters, and comments online and in-person, and to our amazing Pike Place Chowder staff and Pike Place Market neighbors for your support. 🥳🙌
🆘🆘🆘
Heeeellllppp! Our “Skip the line” Takeout window is in danger of being shut down and we really need your help. Since 2003, Pike Place Chowder has been a beloved part of the Seattle community, and since 2017, our Grab and Go Takeout window has made it quick and easy for you to get your chowder.
Now, the Pike Place Market Historical Commission is considering shutting it down, seeing it as a ‘second retail location’ which it is not. Our window is just a pick-up spot for delivery drivers and online orders, helping you skip the line without bothering anyone in the Market.
We REALLY need your support to keep our Takeout window open. Please share your positive experiences and let the Commission know how much this window means to you:
⭐️ Option 1: Submit a written comment to [email protected] by Tuesday, 7/9, at noon/12pm. Scroll down below for a pre-written email to add your name to and send:

Subject: Written Comment Submission for 7/10 meeting - Support for Pike Place Chowder's Grab and Go Takeout Window
Dear Minh Chau Le and Members of the Pike Place Market Historical Commission,
I am writing to express my support for Pike Place Chowder's Grab and Go Takeout window. As a customer who loves their chowder but often doesn't have the time to wait in long lines, the convenience of the pickup window has been a game-changer for me. Without it, I wouldn't be able to enjoy their delicious food as frequently.
The Grab and Go Takeout window allows me to quickly and easily get my order without disrupting the flow of the market. It provides a crucial service for those of us with busy schedules who still want to support local businesses. I urge you to allow Pike Place Chowder to continue operating this essential service.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
YOUR NAME

We've been getting lots of questions about our holiday hours, so here are our July 4th hours early this year! ❤️🤍💙
We get it—finding a seat at Pike Place Chowder can be like solving a Rubik's cube blindfolded. Huge shoutout to our awesome neighbors like the Taproom upstairs and Rachel's Ginger Beer next door for letting our customers enjoy our food in their spaces—as long as you grab a drink, of course, just like did when they were here. Photo credit goes to them, with a big thanks for stopping by! 📸 : 🙏 🙏 🙏
What better day to talk about Reefnet fishing than on ? Reefnet fishing is a traditional, sustainable fishing method used by Indigenous peoples in the Pacific Northwest, particularly the Coast Salish tribes. It involves setting up a net system over tidal channels where salmon naturally migrate. Fishers use floating platforms and underwater nets anchored to the sea floor. Spotters, often perched on high platforms, signal when a school of fish approaches, and the nets are then raised to trap the salmon. This method allows for selective harvesting, minimizing bycatch and preserving fish populations.

✅ Pike Place Chowder is committed to serving certified sustainable seafood. Our efforts have been recognized by the James Beard Foundation’s First Choice program.
✅ Our serving napkins, cups, bowls, plates, and utensils are compostable!
✅ We partner with SalishCenter.org to fund efforts to save the endangered Puget Sound orcas (SROs) and the declining salmon population. By rounding up at checkout, you can help, too!
✅ Owner and founder, Larry Mellum co-launched one of the first seaweed farms in
the Salish Sea (Lummi Island SeaGreens). Seaweed acts as a significant filtration system by absorbing CO2, balancing PH and providing nutrition for shellfish. It provides cover for the forage fish that salmon need for their recovery, while also covering for juvenile salmon as they head out to sea. Larry is hoping to build seaweed farming into a new industry that will have a positive environmental impact on our region.
