The recent dedication of the new UW women's racing shell in honor of Catherine "Kit" Green sent rowing supporter Joe Wren (father of Jen Wren '19) into the archives at KOMO-TV, where he found this Bruce King interview with Kit from back in 1975, not long after the UW began to support women's programs. We've come a long way, and perhaps no one had more to do with that than Kit! Thank you!

The Dual 2023 Washington California
The UW-Cal Dual, first contested by the men in 1903 and by the women in 1977, is the oldest and most significant collegiate rowing rivalry in the western United States. This year, the dual pits the No. 1-ranked Cal men vs. No. 3 UW, while on the women's side, the Huskies are ranked No. 6, one spot ahead of No. 7 Cal.
This Saturday, April 22, following the UW-Cal Dual and Title IX Regatta, the UW women's rowing team will dedicate a new racing shell: the Kit Green. The shell dedication is scheduled to take place at 12:00 noon, after the UW-Cal awards ceremony. Catherine "Kit" Green was a pioneer for women's athletics at the UW, working for the University from 1960 through 1995. Perhaps no single individual played a bigger role in the growth of women's athletics at Washington. Here's a video to mark the shell dedication, produced and directed by former UW rower and two-time varsity 8+ national champion Peg Achterman (BA, 1982; PhD, 2012), also a member of the Husky Hall of Fame.

Class Day events are centered around the main men's and women's races, which pit an eight-oared crew each of freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors against each other in a standard, 2,000-meter race that ends in the Montlake Cut.
