Kindred at Home honors mothers around the world on their special day of recognition.
Miriam, a Registered Nurse at Kindred at Home Huntington, has taken food numerous times to patients who, sadly, could not afford groceries. Because of this need that she identified – and her desire to make a difference in the lives of the people she and her co-workers cared for – she co-founded a food pantry and put out the word to everyone on staff and in the community to join in the effort.
Since its inception, and relying solely on donations, the food pantry has had an endless supply of food for our less fortunate patients and has made a big impact on their well-being and quality of life. Miriam is also very active in our community and has collected needed items for an annual mission trip that is sponsored by her church. And it goes without saying that during the holidays, Miriam is very involved along with her colleagues in collecting items to give to patients to help ensure a joyful holiday experience.
Miriam is the recipient of the first Touchstone Copper Coin award given out at the Huntingdon branch and is well on her way to receiving her silver coin. This award is only given to individuals who provide outstanding care, truly exemplify our mission, and go above and beyond in all areas and in everything they do. Miriam has been with us since 2012 and serves as preceptor to new employees, taking great pride in teaching our new hires and helping them feel welcomed and part of Kindred family. Her pride in being a home health nurse shines bright every day and her extraordinary attitude sets an example for all of us to follow.
Neva has been a Registered Nurse since 2004 and has worked in several settings since obtaining her certification. “I am a home health nurse because I love walking into a patient's home every day and seeing their face light up,” Neva said. “And if it doesn't light up initially, it will by the end of our service time because we all have a deep determination to find out how to meld ourselves into their most intimate setting and meet a need that maybe they didn't even know they had.”
Mary Franck, the Director of Clinical Management: “Neva maintains a high level of professionalism. Her patients feel safe, cared for and confident in the care she provides due to her calm demeanor, approach to care, and her knowledge and skill. She is truly an asset to our team.”
At Kindred at Home, our nurses are on the front lines 24/7 to help our patients recover. On National Nurses Day we salute all of them for the compassionate care they provide every day.
