We are ALL SO READY to welcome Crawlers to Best Little Yarn Crawl in Texas!
JUST an Important Note about traffic in this morning. The Annual County Fair Parade will be traveling south on Austin Street starting at 10 a.m.
We are toward the 3/4ths end of the route but right in the smack dab middle of Downtown.
SO- your choices are to avoid us first thing this morning or map your parking plans accordingly.
The street behind us is South Camp Street (it'a one-way going North, so that's tricky). You can turn off Court Street (Hwy 90) on to South Guadalupe, then turn left on Nolte and you'll come up kinda behind us. If you're coming off 123 Bypass, that's another story, because crossing Austin Street is not possible until about 11.
Because we're losing some time this morning, we'll be open a little longer tonight if we need to be.
PS - We will have BABY ALPACAS this weekend from Painted Alpaca! 🦄🦙
Apologies for the annual inconvenience. 😭

On a recent community visit, I was asked to provide some thoughts on the condition of the downtown, it is my nature to be candid because what good does it do anyone to gloss over the truth?
I explained that things aren’t great and that the current condition of the downtown made it hard to love, and this is a problem. The heart of the community should not be hard to love, it should be incredibly easy to fall for. We shouldn’t keep asking residents to do the extra work to see the diamond in the rough, we should extract the damn diamond.
To soften the blow a bit, I mentioned that the downtown had plenty of potential and a woman in the group wisely told me to stop right there. She asked me please not to say the word potential, that potential is meaningless and all it does was give people a pass to stagnate.
I had not really given this much thought before, but she was absolutely right and I am so thankful she pointed out what a terrible word potential is. If I said I have the potential to get in shape, you would laugh at me and rightfully so, because of course I have the potential to be healthier, everyone has the potential to do better, but we are choosing not to. The fact that I have the ability to do so matters not.
Every single town has the potential to prettier, to be more resilient, to be stronger or more self-reliant. And? Potential isn’t some sort of badge of honor, it’s not an actual attribute. Great, a place could do better, or it could do worse, so what?
I realized what a pejorative word potential is and how we should dismiss it from our vocabulary all together, but especially in the context of community revitalization. When someone says your town has potential, what they are really saying is, you aren’t living up to your promise. They are saying this can and should be better but for lack of effort.
Potential is just another way to cultivate and justify apathy. It doesn’t matter in the least what your town could be, what matters is what your town actually is. What matters is the actions you are taking to improve. Every day you sit back and talk about the potential of your town is another day wasted not realizing it.
Howdy crafters just wanted to pop in and post the video that I recorded last Friday! 😅
So I'm just right on time.
Hope you enjoy and we'll see you soon.
