Residents and Faculty received training on Laerdal SimBaby today!

This high-fidelity baby simulator is designed to help healthcare providers effectively recognize, and confidently respond to critically ill pediatric patients. Simulation can be used to improve confidence in performing life-saving skills, clinical skills, communication skills, and quality of care for patients.

We are fortunate to have this simulation equipment, generously provided by a grant from the Department of Family and Community Medicine, for resident and medical student education at UAB Selma Family Medicine and Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our recent Walk With A Doc events! We had a great walk together and learned about Hydration last Monday from Dr. David Ibrahim, and learned about Walking & Mental Health today from Dr. Deji Alakija.

Residents without health insurance in Selma can receive comprehensive health screenings and services through Doc On The Spot, a partnership between United Way, UAB Selma Family Medicine, Building Healthy Communities, and Edmundite Missions.

This initiative offers screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, and other tests, all at no cost to the patients. Dr. Susan Raymond, who oversees the program, highlighted that they also provide complete lab work and free X-rays. For services they cannot provide onsite, they ensure patients are referred appropriately. Doc On The Spot aims to improve healthcare access and outcomes for uninsured residents, contributing to a healthier community.
