60 dB is typically considered to be a safe volume. That's about how loud a normal conversation can get. But with the new season there are new sounds to be aware of and to protect your hearing from.
July 4th is coming up and that means fireworks. These nighttime displays are beautiful, but they can take a toll on your hearing without appropriate precautions. Clocking in at as high as 160 dB, be prepared to use hearing protection in the coming days.
That's not all! There are many more sounds you'll be exposed to this season, so follow the link below to learn more about them and what you can do to protect your precious hearing.

🚭👂 Smoking and va**ng aren't just bad for your lungs — they're also harmful to your hearing! Smoking and va**ng can wreak havoc on your blood pressure, which can then make it harder for your inner ear to process sound. Secondhand smoke isn't safe, either. Kids exposed to it have a higher risk of hearing loss and ear infections. Plus, e-ci******es? They're far from a safe alternative. Ni****ne, found in both regular and electric ci******es, toys with your brain’s ability to process sound, potentially leading to issues like tinnitus.
Quitting smoking and va**ng now will lead to better hearing health in the future! Take care of your hearing and schedule a hearing test with us today!

🌼🌷Are seasonal allergies leaving your entire head feeling stuffed up 🤧, and you’re struggling to hear clearly? Congestion 👃might not be the only culprit. Allergens like pollen 🐝land in your ear and can trigger a cascade of reactions in your body!
This dusty invader can start the typical excess mucus production 😢, but histamines also kick into high gear and try to remove the allergen — causing inflammation, itching, and possibly swelling. This can lead to blockages in your ears, causing discomfort and even hearing loss. If this happens to you, see your allergist or P*P 🥼, and if you’re still have hearing loss 👂 after your allergies have been cleared up, THAT is the time to see your local expert audiologist.

We had the pleasure of participating and sponsoring the 19th Annual Queen Anne’s County Senior Summit at the 4H Park in Centreville, MD yesterday. We were recently honored to present a donation to ShoreRivers! Amy Pan, our Senior Hearing Aid Coordinator, had this to share about the experience of supporting this organization:
"It’s been a personal goal of mine the last few years to find an organization to sink my teeth into that is independent of my kids since they are all older now. My dad, who has been involved with clean-ups and water sampling over the years, took me to a ShoreRivers State of the Rivers meeting last April.
"I had a strong desire to volunteer for them, so I had a phone interview with ShoreRivers to be a volunteer swim tester. Unfortunately I was told there was a wait list to work on a river close to where I live and if I wanted to sponsor a new test site it would be $640. That was personally a stretch for me financially. Then I got to thinking, I could pick them to be a CHC Charity of the Month and put that towards the sponsorship fee.
Thanks to Chesapeake Hearing Centers and our patients, I was able to present a $600 check (plus a $40 donation from me) to ShoreRivers to start a new test site and it will be at the Kent Narrows, which is close to where I live. I am really excited to start this new adventure. I will be trained up and starting soon as a volunteer swim tester. It is a win-win for all and a dream come true. Thank you Chesapeake Hearing Centers!"
🤔 Ever wake up to find your ears feeling wet? 🌊Not to worry! Your ears are self-cleaning champs, using earwax to trap dust, moisturize, and fight off infection. If you’re seeing extra earwax exiting your ear, you might just naturally produce a lot of earwax. Before you reach for those cotton swabs☁️👂, here's the scoop — overcleaning can cause more harm 💥 than good. When you put something in your ear, your ear tries to protect itself from irritation or infection by producing extra wax.
If you feel you have “too much” earwax, here are some do’s and don’ts:
DON’T:
🕯️👂 Use ear candles
☁️👂 Use cotton swabs
DO:
🫧 👂 Clean your outer ear
💧 👂 Try over-the-counter earwax-softening drops (unless you even suspect you have a perforated eardrum).
🩺 👂 See an expert audiologist
Working like a self-cleaning oven, earwax is essential 🛀🏿💦👂 and caring for your ears safely is key. A wrong move can damage your eardrum👂🥁. Prioritize your ear health and see earwax for the helper that it is!

It's that time again! Time for us to announce the Charity of the Month, as chosen by one of our team members. This month, we will be donating a portion of our proceeds to SPCA of Anne Arundel County!
This organization is the largest and oldest animal welfare organization in Anne Arundel County, providing shelter and humane care for homeless animals in need, as well as working as advocates for animals in our community.
Since there's no time limit placed on how long animals remain in their care, they have maintained a life-saving rate of 98% since 2014, which is one of the highest in the country!

It’s natural to assume 🔋 rechargeable hearing aids are the preferred model. But is that true? Let us break down some of the benefits of disposable and rechargeable hearing devices.
Many people think they need to clean out their own earwax, but is it necessary? 🛁
Generally, ears are self-cleaning, and for most of us, cleaning out our ears is unnecessary. Unless you’re accumulating serious buildup, there won’t be an excess of wax to begin with.
BUT, if you are going to clean your ears we highly recommend seeing a hearing care professional so you don't damage your ears!⚕️
