Psalms 34:18
18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone. Amen

Thank you to all who make this happen every month and thank you to those who have contributed thru donations.

Here's what went on this past Thursday evening.
They shop at the boutique before dinner. Kids get to reconnect and play with one another and our childcare peeps rock!!! Our speakers have been so inspirational thus far.

Our last speaker brought so much light and fun with her ideas on decorating on a dime. I'm enclosing a few pics.

Self-regulation helps us be able to regulate strong emotions. A lot of regulation activities for kids involve using their bodies to help connect what they are experiencing internally with what is happening externally.

Here are a few examples our staff uses during sessions: yoga stretches, lazy 8 breathing, jumping and crashing into a crash pad, burrito roll-up, and steamroller.

Laughlin Center provides collaborative services to help support self-regulation through both our psychology and occupational therapy services.

Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh

**Free Dental, Vision and Hearing Care for Kids and Adults

August 5-6 at David L. Lawrence Convention Center

No eligibility requirements to receive free dental care, eye exams, eye glass fittings, hearing care and hearing aids.

Dedicated to creating a community of compassion and service, Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh returns to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center August 5 and 6, 2022, with expanded services for kids and adults that include vision and hearing care in addition to dental services.

This event brings together over 1,000 volunteers, including dentists, clinicians, opticians, ophthalmologists, nurses, imaging technicians and general volunteers to support those who lack access to, or cannot afford, regular dental, vision, and hearing care. Dental procedures and treatments provided include dental exams, cleanings, minor restorative fillings, extractions, root canal treatments on select teeth, oral hygiene instruction and a limited number of temporary partial dental appliances.

This year’s clinic will also offer eye exams and eyeglass fittings, including free eyeglasses; and hearing care, including fittings for free hearing aids.

All services, glasses and hearing aids will be provided at no charge, and there are no income, eligibility, or preregistration requirements to receive care. Doors to the clinic will close when capacity is reached each day.

“Income disparities coupled with the challenges presented by inflation, the lingering economic effects of COVID-19, and the out-of-pocket costs of hearing aids and glasses means that many individuals, caretakers and seniors delay getting the care they need,” says Mission of Mercy Cofounder Daniel Pituch, DMD, MD, Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, UPMC Mercy and UPMC Shadyside. “Patients then postpone oral care until they cannot handle the pain and end up at hospital emergency departments, which are not equipped to provide dental care beyond pain management. The Mission of Mercy team is committed to serving those who are suffering and in desperate need of dental treatment.”

As a licensed physician and dental surgeon, Dr. Pituch sees the impact that oral health has on the overall health of his patients. “Poor dental health can burden the immune system and lead to serious systemic disease through infection and chronic inflammation. Periodontitis has been linked to premature birth and low birth weight, and poor dental health causes pain, discomfort and embarrassment for the individual affected.”

Keith Young, chairman of Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh, adds, “The addition of vision and hearing care means that adults and children can receive a broad spectrum of care in one place, in one day. We know that many parents, seniors and veterans are struggling in this tough economic climate, and this often means difficult choices that include postponing purchases such as glasses and hearing aids. Mission of Mercy is dedicated to creating a community of compassion, love and respect, and our event welcomes anyone ages two and up to visit the clinic for care, no questions asked.”

No registration is required to attend Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh. Doors open at 6 a.m. each day and will be closed when capacity is reached.
