The boatcrew redirected to assist and notified U.S. Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley watchstanders who assumed search and rescue mission coordinator
The boatcrew attempted to dewater the vessel but deemed it unsalvageable after further inspection.
The boaters evacuated the vessel and were transferred to a local marina in stable condition.

Today is the 81st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. πΊπΈ
Todayβs Navy descends from a legacy of honor, courage and commitment - itβs our shared heritage that binds us to our duty.
Today serves as a reminder that among our ranks walk the descendants of true valor. Yet, more than a remembrance, it is a call to action to honor the triumph of the allies against tyranny.
We honor the sacrifice of the 2,403 service members and civilians who died and the 1,178 people who were injured defending America during the attack on Pearl Harbor, and the pivotal role that day played in shaping the world events that would follow.

When people say, the Coast Guard isn't really a military branch...
βWell, that's just, like, your opinion, man...β π₯
You might have a hard time picturing "The Dude" as a member of the , but our man Jeff Bridges served for seven years as a Boatswain Mate!
Bridges maintained his Coast Guard obligations while he was working on two of the films for which he received Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor: The Last Picture Show (1971) and Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974).
His last rank was Petty Officer Second Class and his primary unit was USCG Reserve Center San Luis Obispo, California.

You're a Grand Old Flag πΊπΈ
Happy Flag Day! On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress passed a resolution adopting a flag for our new Nation β the United States of America.
The resolution specified 13 alternating red and white stripes with 13 stars on a blue field. The stars represented the colonies that declared independence, and in the years since, they have grown into 50 United States which comprise our great country today.

On June 6, 1944, more than 156,000 U.S. and Allied troops landed along the beaches of Normandy in the largest amphibious invasion in history. Today, we honor and remember their bravery and sacrifice in the fight to secure our freedom both at home and abroad.
βInto the Jaws of Death,β the iconic photo below, was taken by Coast Guard photographer Chief Petty Officer Robert Sargent. It captures a Coast Guard-manned Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel (LCVP) from the U.S.S. Samuel Chase disembarking troops of the First Division at Omaha Beach. There were 100 Coast Guard cutters and Coast Guard-manned Navy vessels that participated in the invasion, and 15 Coast Guardsmen paid the ultimate sacrifice that day. I encourage you to pause for a moment today to reflect on these heroes and their valor. For more information on the U.S. Coast Guard at Normandy, visit D-Day (uscg.mil).

A new year. New goals. New plans. New website!
The Recreational Boating Safety Directorate has a new looking website! Check it out for all those new boating safety resolutions up placed for yourself: http://bdept.cgaux.org/
Your Boating Safety Checklist/New Year's Boating Safety Resolution:
ππ Leave a Float Plan ashore with a trusted source.
ππ Take a boating safety course.
ππ Request a free vessel safety check.
ππ Do not drink and boat.
ππ Wear a life jacket.
ππ Wear sunscreen and frequently reapply.
ππ Hydrate: always carry plenty of clean, cool water.
ππ Download the USCG Boating Safety app for both veteran and inexperienced boaters.
ππ Be prepared and responsible: Check and consistently re-check weather forecasts, as it can change quickly on water. Review nautical charts - know where navigation markers are, be aware of areas of shallow water and areas that are congested with other boats and swimmers.
ππ Find a paddling safety course for kids, and other public education classes, via the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Just type in your zip code here.
ππ Be attentive. Operator inexperience and inattention are other leading contributors to boating accidents.
ππ Bring extra life jackets. Federal law says there must be one life jacket for everyone onboard.
ππ Be aware of other boaters. Just because you can see them doesn't mean they see you.
ππ Carry flares and fire extinguishers, and make sure they are operational before getting underway.
One of the best and easiest resolutions you can do to start out the new year--request a vessel safety check (VSC)!
You can do that by contacting your local flotilla, last year's vessel examiner, or clicking https://wow.uscgaux.info/i_want_a_vsc/index.php.
