Ready to feed the kids!
When you go out of town for a couple days and you are begged to never leave again...
Sophie says these temps are for the birds...
I am always in awe when the cardoon blooms. Just amazing!
It's getting hot! But, the animals are happy to keep me extra busy. Two little helpers have been out of school for a week, and my other not-so-little have their last day of school today.
Sneak Peak at something new!!!
Something is on the road north right now, and I can't wait to lay my eyes on her!
Happy 1st Birthday to this Beaut of a Do**us!
It always feels good to get back to the white tile in the doe house! Nova was thoroughly inspecting my job.
Spring kids looking for new barns!!
Stella kidded 2/15 with 3 bucklings. One is already sold. The 2 remaining are available as wethers or pets. Both are very sweet!
Olive kidded 2/19 with twin bucks (again. I am still waiting on a doeling from her to retain). One is sold, one is available. He can go registered or unregistered.
PM for info!
Here are our reports from our annual Biosecurity testing.
It sure was a long drawn out Spring, but we are finally enjoying the flowers!
Our roses that we attempt to kill every year smell amazing! (they were planted in the pool area before we bought this property)
Some of my peonies are in bloom! I love them!
Sweet little siblings! Elektra's Buck-Doe twins. Her udder is really exciting and cute, and I can't wait to watch her progress into her milking. Doe is retained, buck will probably be available in the near future.
When you're working on warming a baby goat and you have SO much help....🙄. New Kids On the Block!!
Moon Station Elektra kidded with buck/doe twins! Update coming soon with more info!
Well, it appears as though we have one more doe to kid this Spring!
Moon Station Elektra was bred to York Meadows Thistle Thorn. I'm excited to see this cute litter udder progress!
Introducing our new herd sire Here Be Goats Venti Macchiato AKA 'Big Mac' (Gotta Be Kid N Kona Gold x Agape's Prize Arch Rival). Couldn't see past the Golden Arches!
This will add a little more 🍍 to our farm! I am excited to see what he will do for our future! I think he should add some nice length, hopefully improve our udder attachments, and overall general appearance. He is sweet as pie and growing quickly. Big Mac is already well loved here!
It's definitely a snuggle up and relax kind of day.
We are excited to add a new potential herd sire to our farm.
I can't wait to see how his dam does in the ring this Spring, because her udder is 🔥!
Photos of Here Be Goats Venti Macchiato (Big Mac) Coming Soon!
Hanging with my girl tonight. Olive is due 2/21, but she was a day early last year, I can't find her ligaments, and I just feel like it could be tonight. She is not happy being by herself, but the trailer is full, and it's chilly out, so we improvised. She finally settled enough to munch on a bit of hay and fresh pine shavings 🙄 after I sat down to chill with her.
Think pink for my hippo, I mean goat!
It's been a week!! Amiright?!
I had an exciting Thursday while Todd was still on his way home from Chicago. As I was preparing our two youngest children their lunch, I checked the to see Ariel was in labor. (Mind you, this was a whole 35 minutes after a friend and I had just checked her and decided she was no where close). In all the lunch chaos, running out to assist and trying to keep my children in the house, they let our dogs out of the house. Piper took off following her nose to investigate a dead deer somewhere up the road. Ariel kidded with 2 doelings and a buckling. The buckling was not doing well, and I worked on him warming him, suctioning him, vigorously rubbing him. He got Molasses+Cayenne, a Vit E capsule. He is now stable, but still a little wobbly. Of course, I'm watching Stella the whole time because I knew she was kidding that day. Well, I went inside to clean my hands and arms, and the lunch disaster that had occurred behind my back. I came back out 15 minutes later to help little guy get colostrum, and Stella had shot out 2 bucklings. I was surprised because she had 3 does her first kidding, and 3 bucklings her second, so I bumped her. She immediately laid down and had another contraction. So I ran to scrub up and get l**e. I came back out to assist and had to help pull him out, but he was fine and Stella was relieved to be done, immediately up and cleaning him. So 6 kids born within 45 mins-1 hour while my children acted feral, and I had to go retrieve my geriatric nose dog. My poor neighbors probably thought I was crazy. I went to bed completely sore and exhausted. Between several nights in a row waking every 1.5 hours to check the to all the adrenaline, I was so ready for a full night's sleep. Everyone is well, and yesterday was a beautiful day to be outside.
It's GO TIME! 3 does due between now and the 21st. Stella surprised me and looks ready tonight. Who knew she would beat Ariel.
The girls got a field trip out to the woods today and the boys were super jealous! Their turn was 2 weekends ago, but they don't remember because they had their minds on something else... the girls fence line. 🤪
I'm pretty proud of this girl! We've followed our 90 days using the Farei Kennel methods that worked so well with our original LGD. We are approaching our 90 days, and Malina is being watched, from a distance for today, how she does without us with the goats. She is about 9 months old, very sweet, but still a puppy. We know that she may takw until 2 years old to be fully trustworthy and excellent at her job. She had a little bit of a weak start, as it was very obvious she was not an alpha dog. She was still with her sister, and occasionally, her mom at 6+ months old. So I was worried she might not ever be able to be a strong single LGD, and she may always be best suited for a farm with multiple LGDs, but I wanted to give her the full 90 days to see her potential. She is currently patrolling the fence line, looks confident, isn't chasing goats, calmly walks by them, and occasionally looks up towards the house, acknowledging that I am up here watching. That makes me happy.
We got the rain they've been talking about....with a new pond, a creek that turned to river, and mud for daaaaayyyyysss. 😩 All animals are fine, got extra bedding, and dry shelters. I didn't take any pics of the does, as they were fine, minus mud near the gate. The poor bucks were thankful for their lifted shelter. If the warm temps would stick around for a few days, I would almost say it was worth it. Thankful for my Muckbootsusa.com !!
