Our department participated in hazmat decontamination training at both Aurora Sheboygan County Medical Center and Saint Nicholas Hospital this week.
This EMS Week, we're taking a look back at our proud history of service to the City of Sheboygan. Thank you to all of our dedicated members for the professional care they provide! Your dedication and hard work are truly appreciated.
Over the past week crews conducted specialized training focused on high angle rescue operations along the scenic, but challenging bluffs of Lake Michigan.
Incidents involving high angle rescue situations can occur from lawn mowing, hiking, vehicle accidents, swimming and boating incidents just to name a few. This training is part of our ongoing commitment to enhance our skills and ensure the safety and well-being of our community in any situation.
The training covered various aspects including:
Rope Handling and Knot Tying: Firefighters practiced essential rope management skills and the proper use of knots necessary for secure and efficient rescues.
Rigging Systems: Participants learned to set up and operate complex rope systems designed to safely lower or lift victims from heights.
Victim Packaging and Evacuation: Techniques for securely packaging injured individuals to ensure their safety during extraction will be a key focus.
Safety Protocols: Emphasis placed on maintaining the highest safety standards to protect both the rescuers and the individuals being rescued.
The training was led by experienced members with backgrounds in high angle and technical rescue operations. Firefighters engaged in realistic scenarios to simulate actual rescue conditions, ensuring they are well-prepared for real-life emergencies.

The Sheboygan Fire Department is excited to share Legacies of Firefighting A History of the Sheboygan Fire Department: 1846-1998 (Re-printed).
For many years our department has referenced this book for historical information even including content as part of our firefighter recruit training program. It has become a very special reference book for our department, and we are pleased to make it available once again. Our hope is that the Sheboygan community and our firefighting families of past/present find the same value in it as we do.
Thanks to the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center for their insight and assistance in making this book available to our department and community for years to come; Lastly, thanks to all the original contributors, and history book committee members for making this possible.

For those who remember, the Thonet Furniture Co. burned 42 years ago today. According to our records:
April 19, 1982
Thonet Furniture Co.
911 N 11th St.
An explosion occurred in the boiler room shortly before production was to begin. About 150 employees were inside at the time. All were evacuated. The fire burned out of control destroying the four-story building which took up nearly a block in the city's downtown. Crews fought the fire for 6 days to extinguish embers. Several employees of Thonet were injured including one seriously. The building was a total loss.
This National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week we want to give a special thanks to the Sheboygan County Emergency Communications Center for their highly-trained staff behind our local 911 system. To the public and our department alike, dispatchers are known to be the calm voice during chaos. However, the Sheboygan County Emergency Communications Center does so much more. THANK YOU!
All we are today is because of our retired members. This morning we gathered for our annual retirement breakfast sharing in camaraderie with current members.
