Working on my rainbow 🌈 ✨️ ☺️
We have a keet!!! 🥰
To the tune of Buckwheat from The Little Rascals two pickle song - 🎵 Ive got new hens, Ive got new hens, Ive got new hens today .. Hey Hey.. A doo daaa dii daa doo da day!.. Ive got new hens today! Hey hey!🎵
🤪 (I actually grabbed them last night but close enough)
I said I wasn't getting chick's this year... But because I have a single viable guinea egg set to hatch in the next few days (I have 2 more batches set as well but there is about a week hatch date difference between batches), I decided it would be in its best interest to have a few friends. Ran to Bomgaars in Buffalo yesterday and snagged up 7 americuana pullets (we all know how that goes, any bets on how many are in fact not? Lol).
Two of them had pasty butt this morning that needed cleaned up, surprisingly giving them lil spa treatments is one of my favorite parts of this stage 😆.
The Lavender Pinto Guinea eggs are in fact fertilized!!!
Today is day 10 for the first 4 that I set, I removed two due to no development. This one appears to have twins (they likely won't make it but I'm going to let them try)! Friday is day 10 for the single egg I set last week and I set 4 more this morning!
I found guinea eggs today!!!
I cracked them open to check if they were fertilized (finding two I was worried that each of them laid and I didn't have a breeding pair after all), and guess what!? They look like they are!!💥
I'm hoping to collect a week's worth and set them just to double check. Lavender Pinto Guinea Keets may be coming soon!!! 🥰
I've decided not to do chick's this year and have been tossing around the idea of selling my 1 yr old 1502 sportsman gqf cabinet incubator with lots of extras but haven't totally sold myself on the idea. Considering "renting" it out. That being said, if anyone's interested in space or the incubator itself I'd love to chat!
After 3 years of no predatory incidents (other than the the hawks when we used to free range), something broke into my coop Monday night. We aren't totally sure what since there wasn't any fur or tracks left behind but we're leaning towards a c**n, because of the damage and the fact that the bodies weren't taken or even ate off. We are now down to these 2 lavander pinto guineas (who I'm pretty sure could be a breeding pair 🙌), and the Americauna Roo who is still looking for a flock of ladies to call his own. As sad as it is to say, I think this is likely the end of our poultry journey.

32 eggies went into lockdown today!! 🐣
Seriously can not wait for these two to make some fertilized eggies for my incubator!
Too many roos!
Open to offers but will stick them in my freezer for anything less than 10 each. All hatched this year and are currently coexisting in one coop without issues. Located in Sheridan Wy
It might be cold and snowy but the girls are still laying!
Got our 1st snow for the year over night (and currently still snowing). I'm not new to chickens but all my birds are from this year so this is their first snow too. My coop is unheated but draft free, well insulated, and adequately ventelated, with an automatic door that opens at 8am and will all winter unless its below 0°f (It will be on me to watch predicted temps and change the settings of my door), it's currently 16°f.
There is always that one that doesn't want to stay in the warmth of the coop 😅
Wasn't planning on fall chick's but here we are!!
Such a beautiful assortment 🌈
Expecting: Rhode Island Red, Silkies, Showgirls, Polish, Easter Eggers, and Ameraucanas
Mottled Cochin Bantam Cockrell!
This stunning little fella meets or is darn near close to meeting the American Standard of Perfection and would make a great addition to your breeding or show flock!
Hatched June 8th 2023.
The house chicken just got a bath!
Yeah, you read that right, house chicken 😅
While for some that might mean that the chicken roams the house free range doing whatever it is that it feels like doing, for us that means she lives full time in the brooder on our enclosed porch..
This lovely little lady is around 2 months old and hatched here as part of the frizzled bantam calico cochin eggs I had purchased. Right away it was obvious that she was just a smidgen different. One of her legs stuck straight out the side and her other foot at curled toes. I tried everything I could think of to correct her leg and toes, for several weeks with no results. Meanwhile she was determined to get around well enough to eat and drink. After about a month of failed correction attempts we decided her best quality of life would come from an amputation. It's since healed up fantastically and she gets around so much better even though the toes on her remaining foot also never corrected. Due to her uniqueness she has not been let out of the brooder into the coops with the rest of my birds, not only because I think they might be too much for her, but because I'm not confident she could use the ramps to access the coops. While she's been inside she has helped brood several other hatches including peachicks and guinea keets. It's been so cute to watch, she is so good with the babies! She would make a great addition to any brooder as a full time mom (obviously not her own due to poor genetics).
Moved the peachicks and guinea keets out the brooder and into the grow out coop this morning.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but guinea fly, like reallllly fly.. 🥴
Is there any interest in fall chicks?
Should I set the incubator once more for the year? 😅
Guess who's laying!?! 😍😍😍
The newest addition to Ricky Rooster's Hen House is.... White & Lavender Pinto Guinea Keets!!!!! 😍
These two have became best of friends this week! So glad I snagged up a 2nd while waiting for the eggs I sat yesterday to hatch.
T-30 days to hatch day! 🦚
The new peababy has arrived! 🦚😍
The chochin bantams (including this beautiful calico frizzle) moved outside today!
The peababy is getting a peababy friend tomorrow!!
Taking care of a solo peababy without other feathered friends it's size is hard. They get lonely and loud. I had hoped more than one would hatch but that wasn't the case. I then had high hopes of my cochin bantams that are about 2 months old taking it under their wings like they did the silkies last month but that also didn't happen. I'm expecting 3 more eggs to arrive this weekend but it'll still be another 30ish days after that until hatch day and by then this one might not be very nice to them for a while... In the mean time this lil one will be receiving so much love!
