Here’s a snap of our nurse, Brandy Castillo! Brandy manages our lab draw service 🔬 IV therapies 💉 and will start offering lymphatic therapy in September 💆‍♀️. Her grandmother Lorraine Ella Van Berkom was in the Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII and moved to Sheridan in the 1940s to work in the Sheridan VA’s Psychiatric ward. Safe to say Brandy’s glad not to be assisting with lobotomies (as Lorraine did before they were discredited for the treatment of psychiatric disorders). A neat little family history of nursing here in Sheridan :)

You may have read the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force is now recommending mammogram screening starting at age 40 until age 75 (either annually or every 2 years) for all cisgender women and any individual assigned the female gender at birth.

Gannett Health encourages you to discuss your personal health situation directly with your provider and determine your screening schedule to mitigate risk. It all depends on your personal history, family history, genetics, and race (black women under the age of 50 are twice as likely to die of breast cancer).

It's important to note that general screening recommendations are not one size fits all! For example - if you have had breast cancer, have a genetic mutation that increases your risk for breast cancer, have received high dose radiation to the chest area, or have had prior breast lesions biopsied - your screening schedule will be different.

The recommended timing and frequency of mammograms has long been variable, even across many expert medical organizations. Some have continued to recommend annual screening starting at age 40 - others not until age 45. The variability is largely due to the concern for false positive screenings at a younger age.

Also! You may be eligible for FREE CANCER SCREENINGS IN WYOMING.
The Wyoming Cancer Program (WY Dept. of Health) provides free cancer screenings (mammogram, colonoscopy, PAP/HPV testing) to those who qualify financially.

Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative

Lots of health sharing plans (like health insurance, but more affordable/less headache) out there reimburse for a DPC membership. If you're not familiar with this type of healthcare coverage, we'd be happy to hop on the phone and chat with you about some options. Gannett Health is not a broker service (nor do we receive any financial benefit from referring you), but we have learned about the upsides (and downsides) from our patients' experiences and are happy to share our 2 ¢s!
