All hail the Queen of deliveries!! Dr Bunton delivered 251 babies in 2023 making her the clinic winner (not that it’s a competition, but we are competitive). Every doctor really outdid themselves this year, but we couldn’t do all of this without our clinic and hospital nurses working so hard along side us all. Thanks to our patients and their families for trusting us with your loved ones.

What’s your thoughts?

The long term risks of routine episiotomies far outweigh the benefits. Occasionally, an episiotomy may be performed in an emergency, but the rate at Willis Knighton South is less than 0.1%. Literature shows that, rather than being helpful to delivery, episiotomies are more likely to extend into a 3rd or 4th degree laceration that can increase the risks of pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction in the future. And no one wants that.

Episiotomies were once considered a routine part of the delivery process. However, literature has proven that they are often more harmful than helpful and should be used sparingly. Stay tuned for another video demonstrating why an episiotomy can cause more harm to a new mom than necessary.
