LSUS History professor Dr. Alexander Mikaberidze has joined the editorial team of the prestigious "War, Culture, and Society, 1750-1850" series. Last week, we welcomed Charlton Meginley, Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, to the LSU Shreveport campus. Secretary Meginley had the opportunity to view our Veterans' Circle and meet with current military students and our team at the LSU Shreveport Veterans Resource Center. โก SWEPCO will cut power to the entire campus this weekend. Beginning Saturday, Aug. 3 at 7:00am through the evening of Sunday, Aug. 4, our repair teams will be working on the electric cabling that caused our UC, TC, and Facilities buildings to be without electricity this week. Please do NOT come to campus this weekend.

LSUS' Technology Center, University Center & Physical Plant buildings are currently without power due to an electrical event underground yesterday. These three buildings will be without power all week. The face-to-face students, faculty & staff who utilize those buildings are encouraged to contact their supervisors for alternate school and work arrangements.
All other buildings and operations will continue as normal.

Last week, we welcomed Supervisors Rebecca Boniol and Esperanza Moran to the LSU Shreveport campus! Chancellor Smith led our two Board of Supervisors and Student Representative Emily Otken on a tour of all the exciting areas on campus, like Dr. Vonny Salim's biology lab and the Student Success Center.
When Louise Linh Tran, a senior psychology major at LSUS, isn't helping her fellow students at the Student Success Center, she is advocating for them as a Postsecondary Policy and Advocacy Fellow with Complete College America. She's one of 12 students nationwide working to improve college completion rates and tackle education obstacles.

๐ฎ This week, the LSUS campus was in its "D.A.R.E. Era" as we welcomed law enforcement officers to their 33rd LDOA Annual Training Conference! We hosted officers from all over the state including Caddo Parish Sheriff, Henry L. Whitehorn, for three days of comradery centered around D.A.R.E.
๐ฆ LSUS biology students Hayden Hanna and Jonathan Eubanks celebrated multiple firsts at the University of Michiganโs amphibians and reptiles conference. Their inaugural research project on Chilean gecko genetics earned them the George B. Rabb Undergraduate Poster Award. Competing against top schools, their work on genetic diversity stood out. Congrats to Hayden and Jonathan for putting LSUS on the map!

From earning an accounting degree at Louisiana Tech University to a master's from LSUS, Lora's passion for teaching led her to be named Teacher of the Year at Turner Elementary/Middle School - Pride of the Pines. She empowers her students to take ownership of their learning, creating a positive classroom environment. This fall, Lora brings her innovative methods to Midway Elementary Professional Development School, continuing to impact lives and inspire future educators. ๐โจ

Angela Myles, Coordinator for the LSUS Alumni Affairs & Association, joined the Partners in Policymaking program with the Louisiana Developmental Disabilities Council to speak up for her nonverbal daughter, Anais, but her mission has grown to support the entire community of individuals with developmental disabilities. "It's bigger than just my daughter. It must be about my community," Myles said.
