3 Major Benefits of Having Powers of Attorney

First, a power of attorney is a document that lets one person speak or act for another person. The person granting authority is called the principal. The person accepting authority is called the agent (Louisiana’s term is “mandatary”).

An agent can be a parent or a child, a sister or brother, a niece or nephew, an aunt or uncle, a cousin or a friend. You get to choose whomever you want to act on your behalf during and after a medical emergency.
