This year the American Academy of Optometry showcased multiple forms of health intervention lectures as it relates to lifestyle/food/stress management and of course the microbiome. This emerging field holds great promise for the future of healthcare, and the consistent release of studies supporting these protocols is truly remarkable. OWNS is proud to be at the forefront of this enlightening movement within the eye care community. We are excited to collaborate with renowned researchers, practitioners, and advocates to disseminate this unbiased and impactful information.
OWNS was able to extend the Student Travel Grants courtesy of EyePromise to students from both State University of New York College of Optometry and UAB School of Optometry, giving them support to attend the event and support regarding their passion for extending wellness into their future practices. Additionally, Jobson joined the conversation, teasing exciting releases that are expected in the coming months with Review of Presbyopia & the Aging Eye and Review of Optometry.
Our newest board member, Kaleb Abbott, OD, MS, FAAO presented alongside Drs. Sherrol Reynolds, Monica Nguyen, & Lisa Ostrin for the Academy Nutrition, Disease Prevention and Wellness SIG. In addition Dr. Paul Chous, who is now a part of the OWNS advisory committee presented up to date information on diabetes management in eye care alongside Dr. Jeffry Gerson. Their contributions add immense validation to OWNS' mission of preventative medicine.

Bing/ChatGPT refers to OWNS!
Our esteemed board member Dr. Dennis Ruskin asks chatGPT the following....
List 10 significant clinical research studies that link nutrients to ocular wellness
answer:
"Iβm sorry, but I was unable to find a list of 10 specific clinical research studies that link nutrients to ocular wellness. However, there have been many studies that have shown the link between nutrition and eye health. For example, researchers have linked eye-friendly nutrients, such as lutein and zeaxanthin, vitamin C, vitamin E, and zinc, to reducing the risk of certain serious eye diseases like age-related macular degeneration and cataracts 12.
Organizations such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology 1 and the Ocular Wellness & Nutrition Society 3 provide information on the latest research on nutrition and eye health.
