November is Month and we are working to raise awareness about this leading cause of cancer death in the United States.
On Friday, November 8, we hosted an informative event inside Bassett Medical Center's clinic building. Passersby learned about this disease, Bassett's Lung Cancer Screening Program, and other community resources. On display at our Smoking Cessation table were (real!) pig's lungs, showing the impact smoking has on these organs and a jar containing "a year's worth of tar" - which is the amount of tar ingested by someone who smokes 10 ci******es a day.
The public is welcome to see these displays for themselves at our next Shine a Light on Lung Cancer event, happening tomorrow (Wednesday, November 13) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at FoxCare Center in Oneonta.
Thank you to To***co Free Delaware, Otsego, and Schoharie Counties (TFC-DOS) for partnering with us on this important initiative!
World Pneumonia Day is an annual reminder of how serious this lung infection can be. If you are 65 or older and you get sick with pneumonia, you are at greater risk of hospitalization. Learn more: https://www.webmd.com/lung/understanding-pneumonia-basics
E-ci******es have been the most commonly used to***co product among U.S. youth since 2014, with some va**ng for the first time as early as middle school.
Most e-ci******es contain ni****ne, which is highly addictive. Ni****ne exposure during adolescence can harm brain development, impacting learning, memory, and attention.
E-cigarette aerosol is not harmless “water vapor.” It contains harmful substances, including cancer-causing chemicals, flavorings that have been linked to lung disease, and heavy metals, such as nickel, tin, and lead.
Teens who want to quit can find support at our School-based Health Centers. Our clinicians are ready to listen. Visit bassett.org/sbhc
