He was 21.

He knew how old she was when he booked his flight to the U.K.
He knew how old she was when he booked a return flight for the same date, knowing he only had one purpose in the U.K.
He knew how old she was when he boarded his flight.
He knew how old she was when he landed in the U.K.
He knew how old she was when he took surface transit to her house, where he knew her mother would not be.
He knew how old she was when he entered her house.
He knew how old she was when he gave her alcohol and r*ped her.

He hopped a flight back to his Dutch homeland but was later extradited to the U.K. when everyone found out what he'd done.

He admitted in court what he had done and that, again, he had known exactly how old she was.
He was a 21yo Dutch national team member.

The judge, and several news orgs, mentioned that this conviction and his prison time would end what could have been a great sports career.

First of all, no one should give a s**t about his career getting ruined.
Second of all, it should be surprising to no one that it DIDN'T ruin his career.

He served only 13mo in jail and almost immediately the Dutch national team welcomed him back.

This year, his country's Olympics association decided that it was appropriate to send him to the Olympics. His partner, Matthew Immers, has defended him.

Luckily, Stevie was met with boos at all of his matches, and today he was eliminated from play.

My heart has been aching for Olympian Imane Khelif today. Can you imagine what it feels like to be her right now? I mean seriously, it's the kind of relentless misogyny that just really gets me down so I can only imagine the impact it's having on her.
