Summer tutoring and beyond!

I have spaces for k-8 students and high school depending on subject for Summer!

I tutor out of my classroom (pictured below) in 45 minute sessions up to three times a week if you need it!

I am a Washington State Certified Elementary Teacher who uses the Science of Reading approach along with the Orton-Gillingham Methodology to best help students in spelling and reading. In math I use a manipulative approach so the student truly understands what they are learning and why we do it.

When I tutor math I use manipulatives. I try to help the student understand what is going on behind the numbers. I believe really understanding the why behind it can further help students.

For summer I have the current openings:

Writing/Grammar Tutoring

With writing and grammar tutoring it is more of a situation where you want your student to write more eloquently. Maybe they're writing is basic and you want it to have more pizzazz. However I can also be a case where they're writing is one run on sentence. I have not yet taken any students in this subject area so, they don't know how long the time frame would be. I would guess around 6 months to maybe 9 months.

Who am I and What do I offer?

My name is Katie and I'm a state certified teacher offering private specialized instruction in:

Reading/Spelling
Grammar/Writing
K-8 Math
Dyslexia
Dysgraphia
Dyscalculia
Handwriting
Organizational Skills
Homework Help

For some of these subjects it might be a long term relationship and not a quick fix. I will get your student on grade level but it might take an extended period of time.

Dyslexia Screening

If you have been told your student might have Dyslexia I can screen for that. The screener is $75 and can be done in my classroom on my computer. This does not diagnose your student but you can take the screener to a Psychologist who can then run a test and actually do a diagnosis.

Math Tutoring

When students come in needing math tutoring we can zero in on what topics they need help understanding. I ask that you bring in whatever you can to help me create a picture of where they are at. I then compile of that information and come up with some topics of where we can start. Math Tutoring doesn't require a lengthy amount of time but I have had students with me for up to 6 months.

Reading/Spelling Tutoring

When students come in needing this type of tutoring it can be a lengthy process. I have many students who have seen me for a year or more while I get them through phonics and understanding how to read. It unfortunately is not something I can do in a short time. I need to assess where they are and then start to fill in the holes. Your student will be on grade level by the time they end with me but it will take longer than expected.

I will be closed Monday for Memorial Day.

Not tutoring related but....

Hope's Aunt just went into season I was told by the breeder. Will probably have a litter end of the summer. If you're looking to get a little Hope for yourself I'll give you the name of the breeder!
