Global Finance Names Umpqua Bank Best U.S. Regional Bank in the Far West Global Finance named Umpqua Bank to its 31st annual World’s Best Banks list - Best Regional Bank in the Far West.

In honor of Melanie Dressel, Columbia Bank’s late CEO and President, Metro Parks Tacoma last week unveiled the Melanie Jan LaPlant Dressel Park located along Thea Foss Waterway in Tacoma, Washington.

When Melanie helped found Columbia Bank, she instilled the values of community and encouraged the bank’s associates to live it and find ways to get involved in their local communities. Since her passing in 2017, Columbia Bank has honored her legacy and commitment to community through a bank-wide community service month during April known as Melanie Dressel Community Commitment Month.

Melanie’s spirit of service continues to live on through Umpqua Bank’s culture of giving back to our communities.

Your contribution helps partners like Loaves & Fishes, which in 2022 served close to 10,000 individuals experiencing homelessness. This year, they celebrated their 40th anniversary by highlighting what co-founder Chris Delaney calls “small miracles,” from a smile elicited by a warm cup of coffee to a family finally housed. Funded entirely through donations and private foundations, they currently provide 500-600 meals a day, and even more in winter as shelters are at capacity.

Your contribution helps partners like Vine Maple Place in Maple Valley, Washington, which has been serving single-parent families since 2000. Each month, Vine Maple Place assists around 540 families who are homeless or nearly homeless — that’s 1,620 parents, mostly single-mothers, and children. Vine Maple Place provides housing to get safe, counseling to heal, help to build employment skills and financial literacy, and provides children’s programs to break the homeless cycle. And the program works, with 91% of families successfully housed one year after they leave the program.

Meet Jake! Jake is heading into his senior year at Biola University in La Mirada, California, where he is getting ready to graduate with a degree in Marketing.

While at the bank this summer he has been busy diving into the banks social media marketing efforts, and learning how to effectively utilize digital marketing campaigns to grow the bank’s presence.

When asked what Jake was looking forward to most with this internship, he said he was excited to gain knowledge and experience working with the Marketing team at Umpqua, as well as connecting with other interns!
