🎉 Introducing our new Roughing Step Drill!

The new Roughing Step Drills are designed specifically to prepare holes for finishing with our SAEJ1926 and AS5202 reamer pilot port tools. Composed of high quality 10% micro-grain carbide with coolant through holes, these new drills offer superior wear resistance, ensuring longer tool life and reduced cycle time. They are currently available in sizes -2 through -8.

These tools will be available for purchase on the opening day of IMTS: Monday, September 9.

🎉 Introducing our new X-Series Port Tools!

The X-series port tools are designed to replace SCT’s line of piloted port tools. Historically, solid pilot tools were used to line up the tool to the hole when using manual milling and drilling equipment. With the widespread use of modern CNC equipment, the solid pilot is no longer necessary, and sometimes even detrimental.

A coolant hole to each flute aids with increased chip evacuation, higher speeds and feeds, and longer tool life. The polished flute face optimizes performance for a smoother surface finish. The body of the port tool is made of heat-treated alloy steel and the brazed inserts are made of premium quality sub-micron carbide. Tools are in stock and available to order either uncoated or AlTiN+ coated. For ferrous and hard-to-machine materials, the coated version is highly recommended.

Coatings provide a thermal barrier between the cutting edge of a tool and the workpiece. They also increase lubricity and aid in chip evacuation.

We are proud to offer a full array of coatings, but after testing many different kinds of coatings, we are confident in the efficacy of our proprietary AlTiN coating. 👊

Pro tip: don’t use an aluminum-based coating when you’re cutting aluminum. The materials will interact negatively!

Thread mill tool rigidity is so important to achieve consistent and accurate threading results. Make sure that your machining setup provides sufficient stability to minimize vibration and deflection during the threading operation. Use appropriate toolholders and fixturing techniques.

Tip: The shorter the neck, the better. A short neck allows you to avoid distortion and take fewer passes.
