Greenville Tech Welding
Take a look at our Welding programs, where you can study the fundamentals or pursue more specialized
In our pipe welding classes we make sure we get our students ready for real world applications. Here we have our students under their tables in tight positions to ensure they will be confident in any environment or situation.
Our welding department donated the bridge we made for last years Christmas parade to the city of Greenville. About 30 members from Greenville Tech and the city showed up for the ribbon cutting. The bridge now sits outside of Carmella’s in Falls Park. Very proud of the students who helped design and build this.
I’m looking to give a couple of our former students who have at least 3 years experience an opportunity to be a daytime adjunct with us. The two adjuncts would be teaching beginner tig, stick and mig classes. The pay is $36.90 an hour and you would work between 10-20 hours a week.
Email me if interested.

I had a meeting at CIMCO Refrigeration where we sent one of our students a few months ago. Sheyla Maldonado is making $28 a hour and killing it!
Donaldson career center took first place in Greenville Technical College ‘s Greenville County Career center welding competition. Alexander Erreguin took first place and was awarded $1000 toward his tuition from the American Welding Society. Alexander showed a high level of skill and ability to adapt to an unfamiliar environment as well as a variety of joint configurations. It was a pleasure to have him compete and we look forward to seeing him in the future.
Greenville Technical College’s career center welding competition was a close one. All the young welders did really well adapting to some new joints and process that were outside of their comfort zone. It’s always a blast to host them and we look forward to seeing them next year. First place took home over $600 worth of welding gear! We are thankful to our donors for making this happen each year. Thank you Jody Sumter from Linde gas, Matthew Chubb from Lincoln electric and Marc Lopez from Miller Electric Mfg. LLC.
Hannah just passed her 6G restricted monster coupon test for a company who hires several of our pipe students! The company gives out hats and other items to their new employees. Great job Hannah!
Matt Bouwkamp: “It was an absolute pleasure to teach Ms Sheyla while she was here at Greenville Technical College . She was one of the fastest learning students on pipe. Her most recent weld test involved passing a 2” carbon steel schedule 80 6G 6010/7018 followed by a 2” carbon steel schedule 80 6G GTAW. She’s making close to $30/hr and putting her education to use. We are very proud of her!”
It’s National Welding Month, and Greenville Technical College grad Sheyla Maldonado has a reason to celebrate! She’s part of an exciting new trend showing an increase of women in the historically male-dominated industry. Check out Sheyla’s story here: https://startcollegehere.com/stories/sheyla-maldonado.html.
Greenville Technical College welding technology students passing a 6G restricted heavy wall combo test in compliance with ASME IX to hire in for one of our boiler service companies. Our students have been known to take home over $3000 a week. Greenville Technical College welding technology program is grateful for the relationship.
The first Homeschool Welding Class was a big hit! The class was originally just suppose to cover mig welding but the students did such a great job we were able to show them mig, tig, stick AND do a little project! (Horseshoe Christmas Tree) This group is already talking about signing up for a more advanced welding course. The students also were able to keep their brand new welding gloves and safety glasses.

Our annual welding competition at Enoree Career Center was a hit again! Mr. Bouwkamp judged their welds and gave out awesome prizes. The students can’t wait for our Career Center competition we have at Greenville Tech in May! Well done students and thank you Mr. Walden for having us!
When I took over the welding program 5 years ago we hardly had any female students and we didn’t have any female instructors. One of my top priorities was to get more women into the welding industry. So I hired 3 female instructors and started promoting in the local high schools and at local events. This group of young ladies are in one of our welding courses. We have approximately 25 women in our program and they are excelling. Our overall enrollment has grown to 150 students and continues to grow.
If you are interested in an exciting career contact me and I will help you get started this Fall.

Mr. Bouwkamp prepares his pipe students by making them weld in different positions. He makes sure they will be able to do quality welds no matter what position they will be in.
Our Academic Program Director, Miss Ross, with 4 of our female students who just graduated in December. All 4 were hired on by a company named Leadec. They came by to visit and let us know how much they enjoy their jobs. Leadec starts their welders at $24 an hour with annual increases, great benefits and good overtime. If you are interested in this exciting, rewarding career contact me and I will help you get registered for our Fall semester. We offer morning, midday and night classes.

Instructor Saija Butters had her fabrication classes work on a replica of downtown Greenville’s Liberty Bridge. This replica will be on our Greenville Tech Christmas float this year in the downtown Greenville Christmas parade on December 9th. We are very proud of our fabrication students and can’t wait to see this in the parade.
Mrs. Butters does an excellent job teaching our students not only how to interpret drawings but how to actually create drawings as well.
If you are interested in a high demand and rewarding career give me a call. Spring classes start January 8th.

Even though welding can be a lucrative career, I know that some parents still want their kids (who want a hands on career) to still get an associate degree or a bachelor degree. Here at Greenville Tech, we are now offering a pathway for welding students to continue on and earn a bachelor’s degree.
The student would finish our certificate program and enter our associate’s degree program. When the student graduates from the associate’s degree program with an acceptable GPA, they would then apply and get accepted into our bachelors degree program. We are excited to offer this new pathway and continue to meet our goals and your expectations as a program and an institution.
