Cleaning up after the flood? This should help answer some of the most frequently asked questions about cleaning flooded basements.
1. Pump water out of your basement in stages. Remove about a third of the water each day to prevent structural damage or collapsing of basement walls due to unequal pressure.
2. Shovel out any mud and debris while it is still moist.
3. Hose down walls and remove as much silt as possible before it dries.
4. Floors and walls may need sanitizing, particularly if sewage has entered the basement.
5. Scrub walls and floors with a mild bleach and water solution (1/4 cup of bleach to a gallon of water). Allow the area to dry completely. https://ow.ly/76HC50Ss0Bb
Trying to decide what to keep and what to discard after a flood? Discard all items that have been torn, splintered, cracked, broken or dented. Large porous items such as upholstered furniture, mattresses and carpet that have been soaked by flood waters MUST be discarded. When in doubt, throw it out. https://ow.ly/813h50SrYZ4
When flooding occurs, many people wonder if they need extra vaccines: fortunately the answer is no. Flooding does not increase your risk of getting sick from diseases like hepatitis A, tetanus or hepatitis B. Everyone should be up-to-date on all vaccines at all times, including when flooding is occurring. Learn more about routine vaccinations: https://ow.ly/Y4wr50SrYnX

Ice can be dangerous, especially for pregnant women. As the baby grows, your center of gravity shifts, making it more difficult to keep your balance. Here are some tips to prevent slips and falls during winter pregnancy:
• Walk slowly and take smaller steps
• Pay attention to potholes, patches of ice, & uneven surfaces
• Wear practical shoes with non-slip soles (no heels, ladies!)
• Use hand railings on stairs
• Walk like a penguin 😁
